It's innovative just like SLI, 3D, & PhysX...oh wait...

NVidia didn't even bother to change the acronym for SLI when they stole it from 3dfx either. At least ATI puts some effort into their "innovation".

Dang, didn't know that Matrox care could run three screens as one big screen flawlessly with Windows...

That he even compares a shipping product to an architecture announcement at a conference that was scheduled over a year ago says something...

From what I understand Eyefinity isn't flawless yet either...

3DFXs SLi is totally different to nVIDIA's SLi.. 😕

Kyle: On the gaming front, we know the 5870 / 5850 and 5770 / 5750 series GPUs already kick ass and are being sold while we are still waiting for NVIDIA to even discuss gaming with Fermi.
Yes but NVidia's 285 and 295 perform in the same range as the 5850 and 5700 series so it's not like NVidia's not currently in the marketspace or something.

Something doesn't have to be unique to be innovative.

The Parhelia was too slow to drive 3 monitors (of which you would have most likely been driving 3 CRTs - and people complain about the LCD bezels :laugh🙂 and TripleHead2Go (an adapter that still requires a video card) costs more than a Radeon 5850.

Sure, Matrox was the first to introduce the concept, but AMD has made it relatively practical, thus the innovation.

So if something has been done to some level before, you're saying it's not innovative? 😀

Eyefinity is hardly a ground breaking feature but I can certainly see why some people would be interested in it in a gaming sense as well as for non-gaming uses. Before if you wanted 3-6 monitors (say 1080P res) what were your options? Buying multiple video cards was about it.

Matrox probably made a bit of money with their triple head stuff, AMD can probably grab a piece of that market now. A clean solution that supports much higher resolutions and is included with the cost of a video card (not to mention with AMD's decoder you could run seperate 2 seperate 1080P movies over two monitors while using the third for other things - great in certain spaces I'd think) for less money. Not a bad idea on AMD's part to make money where they can.

Guys don't feed the troll, he will get banned soon, all that we can do is pity him because he doesn't have a life at all and just like to have fun derailing, trolling and spreading FUD and childish marketing attempts across all threads.

Going back on topic, its quite interesting the mix of marketing/real facts in those slides.

I dont know about you guys but marketing has been driving "Innovation" for product and technology advances for as long as I can remember. Take a look at LCD specs and the 120hz not real 120hz refresh rate stupidity. Take a look at the automobile industry. Take a look at every competive marketplace and you see some FUD....

Back on topic, lowering costs and refining a process or tech is innovative and over the next 10-20 years we will see more mashups and refinement and extrapolation of current designs into other related fields. Take a look at the company wiitricity. They have patented a way to send power wirelessly at short to med distances. While the tech is proprietary now when it does become open can you imagine the mashups and other uses for the tech? BTW they -wiitricity- use something that has been around since the advent of electricity- magnetic fields- Is what they do still innovative? hellz ya!!!

just wait a few weeks. with no 285 and 295 production going forward they are going to get VERY scarce because of the sick and the old who like to buy it just 'cause it's green.

isn't it interesting that nearly every thread involves somebody calling for wreckage's perma-ban? How much trolling is too much?

I'm glad to see that ATI's marketing dept is keeping at it. ATI (and AMD) have always 'played nice' in comparison to NV and Intel, and it's good to see them going on the offensive a bit.
