AMD breaks some DX9 games with Adrenalin drivers, they won't be fixing it?

MSI AfterBurner works with every DX version and doesn't cause a single issue...

I wish that were true. Rivatuner doesn't work in several DX11 titles and can cause crashing in others.

But regardless, AMD is fixing this problem because people complained. Complaining loudly is the best way these companies respond.

I'm sure most of us here have had to roll back our drivers on AMD/NVIDIA at least once due to silly mistakes.

I'm glad they are addressing it; it doesn't surprise me that a large corporation simply doesn't expect consumers to complain when something so incoherent occurs.

I often wonder how older titles fair on the latest gear but I've always enjoyed using legacy hardware for such affairs anyway. Something about that old tech still working is just satisfying to me.

Most well written games don't have an issue with faster hardware.
However, that is the thing, lots of games aren't very well written or have idiotic DRM that breaks with new tech.

It is nice that we can still use VMs for games that break with a newer OS.

Well those games used to work with pre-Adrenalin drivers so it is a problem on AMD's side that they broke those 'outdated API modules' with their new driver?
So you are assuming because it worked before and the change was because of the drivers it is AMD's fault? Would you be singing the same tune if that same AMD update was required to play new games? You have not proved were the flaw lies? If it is in the driver or the games? I don't know other than what others are posting.

Old games aren't updated - they keep their old code. New hardware and software support means new drivers, which also means that you have to ensure that your new code doesn't conflict with the way the old code works. In this case, it is clearly AMD's fault. They've admitted it and said there will be a hotfix.

You can't blame a 10-year-old dev-team that might not even exist to go and fix their game. It's very clear that it's AMD's fault.

This is different from debating whether those old games were justified in being coded the way they were which required workarounds with newer APIs and drivers.

Ahh the actual people that should be making statements were on vacation for the holiday. The tech support guy overstepped his pay grade exactly like I said. He is no longer listed as having any powers on the forum btw. As soon as the people with the authority to make a statement, you know because they are actually responsible for what is and is not getting fixed, the actual response came.

This is just another case of Internet hypes falling for clickbait because they are ignorant.

Makes sense, so what was AMD's official retort? I remember seeing that the topic had been locked by sir temporary AMD Forum mod.

Well, this is first truly gamebreaking bug after many years... try to check competition, they have gamebreaking bugs in almost every release.

Really rather baffled - and a little bit disturbed going forwards - how this got past Q&A.

Do you really expect them to test against every old game? This is really an unfortunate problem, where the community must be the squeaky wheel.

I only buy games from GoG and participate in those forums, and this is a frequent issue for both AMD and NVidia.

NVidia drivers have broken Neverwinter Nights several times. It's one of my favorite games and I have a NVidia card, so I am especially aware of this combo.

NWN with current NV drivers is still in a broken state, and driver rollback is the only solution.

Well not especially for random, genuinely old, stuff 🙂 Look at the game list on page 1 of this thread though - Skyrim say is still getting played (and purchased) massively. Not testing it seems really rather odd.

So one person makes as list and it is fact?

If you go to the Reddit thread that is the source, nearly every reply related to Skyrim says it is working fine with Adrenaline drivers.

Anecdotally, I'm in that group. I had no issues with Skyrim on Adrenaline drivers (only the Special Edition though).
