<< Just read the review of this MB at Tom's Hardware. I wouldn't buy it based on his thoughts, anyone else? >>

I've had mine for two weeks with no problems. I'd do it again without thinking twice.

Case leaves a bit to be desired, but SiSoft scores are good and I'm very happy - especially for $200.

Finally got the backordered AMD 1700xp processor............how you guys get it to run at 1900xp? I'm happy with mine, so far, everything seems to be in OK shape.

RED SOX, what don't you like about the case? What about the power supply? Who makes the case do you know? Do they have a website? I'd PM you but I can't get thru ....

I didn't see anything on tomshardware that was of concern. The review was positive except for very hot switching transistors and skimpy integrated audio interfaces. Most people will not be using the onboard audio anyway. Is there a different review on the site somewhere?

<< There must be, because he mentions the location of the power supply plug in, and a few other important things in his conclusion. >>

Forgive me, but is this a subtle version of thread s***ing?

It's simple - mini tower case w/ relatively poor ventilation, decent MOBO, retail processor - $200.

I didn't expect a Dragon + with a $150 case, etc. The system is fine for shlubs like me on a tight budget who upgraded from ancient hardware.

Uh.......aren't questions supposed to be answered? And forgive me, but I thought this was America, I didn't realize that answers to questions had to be run by the "sensors" before being posted.

Oh and incidentally, I am always direct and to the point, so when and if I was going to thread s***, there wouldn't be any doubt....😉

<<

<< ATI Radeon DDR works fine for me >>

Ditto
>>

yeah? hmm...that's quite odd, my Radeon VE and my tv wonder ve both caused my system to freeze...

If I didn't just cut out the UPC from my GF3 ti200 for the rebate I would've purchased that $110 Radeon 8500 (awesome card) and returned the gf3 if the radeon worked...

No, seriously, I want to know where the other review is on tomshardware. I want to read it. The first page of this thread mentions the 5/9/01 review and that's what I read.

I changed the cpu freq to 133 in the bios and when the comp boots it says athlon 1700+, but when I use mobo monitor to check the cpu speed it says 1500 somethin....anyone know what's up?

I'm not sure if I should post this in this thread, but what the heck. I almost got this combo the first time it was posted. But with the talk on case temps and vid card probs I'm unsure. newegg has a Enermax, CS-A1QX-02($60 shipped),AMD 1700+($124), and SHUTTLE AK31A Refub($49) for a total of $233 which is about $25 more. Does anybody think if this setup is any better? I don't know how good the case and ps are.

Is anyone else having Video Problems with this board? I installed a Savage 2000 (I know, its a hunk of crap but it works fine in my other computer and hey, it was free). When moving stuff around, like file copying, some of the pixels stay on the screen when they shouldnt be. Almost like they are "streaking" across the screen. When I open Windows Explorer, there is a line through all the folders on the left side and a portion of each folder/file on the right side is missing. Each folder looks like half a folder.

I know its not the video card because it works fine in my other computer running the same OS, Windows 98 SE. I even dowloaded the latest set of drivers.

Any one have any ideas?

I just ordered this, too... Looks great! I'm wondering what kind of memory to buy--is it worth it to splurge for ddr pc2100, or just go with pc133? They're both more expensive than they used to be. . .

Anyone want to share their thoughts? I've got < $140 to blow on RAM.

Thanks CicsoBoy. I got this puppy running on Windows2000 server and WIN XP Pro using a cheap ATI Rage AGP card last night. The only problem with XP Pro I got stripes with cursor when clicking during installation. This Soyo MOBO is sensitive with graphic from what I can see. Bus/PCI speed: 133/33, FJ1 jumper: 1 on, rest off. System temp: 37C, CPU temp: 42~44C. Still waiting for GeForce2 MX400 refurb from NewEgg and I will let you guys know how it works. Thanks again.

What are you talking about pc133, this thing only takes DDR memory. Got mine from the Crucial link on the front page of hot deals forum.

guaraguao: if you read the whole thread, you'd know you had to use ddr ram. if people want to buy this, they should read from page 1 on the different problems and requirements for this machine, if you skim it, you may miss stuff. such as no onboard video and 2 usb ports not 6. you also need a case fan.

And missing onboard video and 4 USB ports is worth of 20$. 😀

actually, it takes SDram dimms too...

and i got this for $180 because of thier site mess up earlier so i'l getting $20 back...even better deal =)

OK, my bad, thanks. (Good thing I didn't go out and buy more pc133 :>)
ALthough I did do my research on the mobo, I am aware that it doesn't have onboard video (don't want it anyways) and only 2 usb (but comes with 2 onboard jacks for expansion). Does it really need a case fan?

on the maneul, it says u can only use 2 of the ram slots at once...

lol

yea, get a case fan......or just open the flaps like me =)

Check the power supply guys. The page says it's supposed to be 300W. Got mine today and it's only a 230W. Called outpost up and they're letting me return it. Since so many people seem to be having trouble with video cards with this Mobo, I think I'll just keep the CPU and get a case and Mobo from elsewhere.

Is anyone besides me concernced about all the inconsistencies with this "deal"? Some people getting cases all banged up, some getting different capacity power supplies than the advertised 300w, etc........?

This is beginning to sound a lot like some of these packages have been returned before and reshipped to someone else. I was going to order this deal but it's sounding a little fishy. Sometimes you are better off doing like some of the previous posters, and ordering seperate parts, paying a little extra, but knowing what you are getting........

Just my 2 cents...🙂
