AMD Athlon XP 1700+ Boxed CPU w/Soyo AS-A750 BareBone System for $199

i'm really tempted to order this...shipping is only $7 or $8 too via ground. I was planning on buying the ECS K7S5A and the case from newegg (whenever it got in stock)..can anyone comment on this mobo? better than the ECS one?

Well, I just made the plunge (I'm an impulse buyer). I've been looking for a well-priced barebones XP combo and this fit the bill. However, I don't know a damn thing about this motherboard. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Dang it!!! I just bought the black evercase from newegg for $60 and the Duron 950/ECS combo for $106 from Outpost.

So for ~$40 I could have had a 1.7 XP. Bummer.

Obviously nice find. I'm tempted to get one anyway.

Thanks,
Pigseye

<< I'm a little out of touch..

is the Athlon XP similar to P4?

coool, it has a AGP slot too

athlons are in most cases better than the P4's 😀 and yes agp slot...!

i really want to order one of these babies

Looks very good. If you consider mb = $80, and cpu = $120, you get the case for free, plus potential savings in s&h.

How is Fry's concerning returns & solving other problems?

thanks for the post and replies on the mobo, i just placed my order..finally, i can get rid of this POS computer.

dammit forgot, i gotta buy (expensive) RAM too 🙁

anyone know what is the best ram to get? and will it support the ocz 2400 or 2700 clock speed ram?

That should be the Soyo SY-K7ADA motherboard with the ALi chipset. Tom's has a review (search K7ADA) from May 9, 2001, and a link to a Pricegrabber best price of $75.

I can't comment on the motherboard but, I got the Soyo Barebone deal with a Duron 950 speakers, keyboard, mouse, and floppy for $149.00 from outpost a couple of weeks ago (now it's $199.99) . That one had a different Soyo Motherboard in it, Soyo SY-K7VEM Pro. The setup was no problem and I didn't run into any issues. Overall not bad quality for the price. I would buy another next time I need a cheapie system. The case is a little light weight but, it's not like you will be using it for a jackstand.

Looks like this one is just the CPU, Mobo, and Case. no Floppy drive. Still looks like a decent deal though.

<< So what exactly comes in this bundle? Does the CPU come with heatsink and fan?

Thanks
>>

comes with cpu, mobo, computer case w/300watt ps.

since it's retail boxed, the cpu comes with a heatsink/fan. 🙂

Ok, computer builder virgin here. I have a couple of questions regarding this system. Will I need to purchase a case fan? Can I just plug the processor in or do I need some Artic Silver? Is there anything else I might need for cooling/otherwise?

shiznitz,
you boght this, does it come w/ mouse, keyboard, speakers, onboard lan, floppy, like the duron 950 combo did? or is it just the cpu, mobo, and case/ps ???
i have to say i was impressed witht the last barebones from them for a cheapie system for someone......9 bucks and it was shipped and here in less than 24 hrs(overnight....im impatient)

I just placed my order today, so I'm not 100% sure what is included in the package. However, I believe that the only hardware included is the case, power supply, mobo, and cpu. I'll let you know when the goods arrive.

case fans/arctic silver aren't a necessity.. unless you're planning on overclocking (not familiar with the mobo so i wouldnt know), you'll be fine. the retail box cpu comes with a thermal pad that goes between the cpu and the heatsink/fan.

I am guessing that this version of the motherboard doesnot come with an agp slot since it says 2d/3d graphics included.
