Judging by all the commotion in the thread, I imagine it would be easy for the nay sayers to show me where I could buy a 3gb gtx 580 for $460. Well, less than $460, actually, because it would still be slower o average. And eat a lot more power. And be a lot hotter.

I'm waiting.

Wow, looking at Ryan's review that Sapphire OC card looks like a winner. I'd want to see a couple more reviews to see if the low voltage is a fluke or a cherry card, but with those thermals and acoustics it would definitely be worth the $40 premium over that other turd that they put out.

Looks like AMD really short on 28nm capacity, so they have to push people towards the 7970. While I've defended the pricing for the 7970, the 7950 is horribly overpriced as of now. The GTX5 70 was 150$ cheaper than the GTX 580 and the performance gap was smaller.

Yeah, this. At 500 I'd just get a 7970 to overclock it way beyond what the binned 7950s are capable of.

Really getting frustrated with this gen's pricing so far. :\

7950 at the price it is selling for right now is not worth getting. If you have those funds to spend, the extra $50-$90 is not a big leap, and you might as well get the 7970.

I'd definitely agree with this. I think NE prices will drop as the initial rush (if there is any) dies down. For similar cards there does seem to be a decent difference in price. Compare the Gigabyte Windforce card for each model

The 7970 is now available at it's MSRP of $550, so in a week once the 7950 drops down to $450 it will be a little more reasonable. You'd probably still be better off with the 7970, but if sub-500 is a hard budget then the 7950 isn't terrible, especially if they can be unlocked.

Yeah, and for me the price is too high right now. My 5870 is still chugging along. So the pricing of the 7950 leaves me sticking with my card, spending more than I want or simply waiting for kepler. None options I really like.

Awesome to see non reference cards at launch. Time for a GTX 580 $50 price cut..

I'll just wait for the end of this year when a game may actually have to have one, and they should be a little cheaper too. But I would get the 7970 though for a couple of bucks more I do believe.
