Wow, even the number 3 card has 16GB VRAM and is faster than the 2080TI. And the $1000 6900XT matches the $1500 3090 in performance.

The 3000 parts don't look so hot now.

Post reviews edit:
It's astonishing what AMD have managed to achieve with both the Ryzen 5000 and the Radeon 6000, especially given the absolutely minuscule R&D budget and resources compared to nVidia/Intel. Lisa Su is definitely the "Steve Jobs" of AMD with such a remarkable turnaround.

6900XT:
(It's absolutely amazing to see AMD compete with the 3090)

I spoke on the phone with a manager (my dealer) at my local PC retailer/etailer, they're no small fry, not the biggest either but I asked about Sapphire & PowerColor 6800's. The answser wasn't pretty, 2-3 months before they expect any from them. They had less than a few dozen cards total (AMD+AIB (Gigabyte & Asus)) and some of those for pre-builds and don't expect more until after Xmas.

Was looking for a Sapphire Pulse 6800 to replace a failing 5700, guess I will have to wait a bit longer.

Man, what is it with card manufacturers making super long cards now? I have a medium size case with GPU clearance of 305-310mm and half the cards won't fit anymore. Asrock 5700XT Taichi is 324mm long, Sapphire Nitro is right on the edge at 310mm, XFX 6800xt is over 330mm, Red Devil 6800XT is also around 325mm. Thank god at least reference design is 270mm, not that I would be getting it any time soon. Hopefully Navi22 cards will be shorter without compromising on the cooling abilities.

P.S. I'm really sad because there was a guy on Craigslist selling 5700XT Taichi for $250 and I couldn't get it because it won't fit in my case :(

High end cards have always been pretty long. Especially now with high end cards drawing 300-450W, longer GPU means a larger heatsink and more fans, so it can try and be both cool and quiet. My old case was limited to two fan GPU designs. When I got my new case, I made sure it would fit any length GPU.

How is a 5700 failing already? And if so, is not still under warranty?

With the price of entry and lack of stock on the Ampere and RDNA2 cards, as well as the Vermeer availability issues, this is really turning out to be a bad Black Friday isn't it?

Very frustrating. I had hoped to upgrade from my 1080ti for Cyberpunk 2077 but looks like that won't be happening.

Price is $769.99
https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-radeon-rx-6800-xt-11304-02-20g/p/N82E16814202391

So 3% increase in performance for 18% price increase.

But I suppose it is not as bad as some of the others:
https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=RX+6800+XT&LeftPriceRange=750+1000

The AIB manufacturers have joined the scalping party.

AIB cards are typically more about build quality, cooling and sound level improvements, and asthetics, than they are about performance increases.

Yeah, this is why I wasn't sold on all of you going "Just wait for the AIBs, LOL!". There was no way in hell they'd be priced reasonably. There was never a scenario under the sun where the core unit wasn't going to be the best value by far. Now it's just the magical unicorn.

Also they tend to OC better as well. If you're buying an overbuilt cooling solution and just running it at stock settings I question the decision to buy such a card in the first place.

Best value is hard to define unless you reduce it to a simple objective measure like dollars per frame. AMD actually has a really solid reference card for a change, but for many people a card that not only runs a bit faster, but does so more quietly can be worth the extra cost.

With supplies this short the actual market price was always going to increase over MSRP. The only difference is how much of that scalpers get to pocket.

So AIB 6800xt is ~3080 perf with ~3080 power consumption?

Any guesses on what that means for 6900xt? Doesn't seem like there's going to be much room for the extra CUs to stretch their legs

My man... a 1080 Ti will run Cyberpunk more or less maxed out. Its an RPG so its not like you need 144fps.

As a side note this is what's unfortunate for AMD.

I badly wanted a 6800XT. So I camped out in the rain all night for over 14 hours and made sure that I was #4 in line at my local Microcenter. AMD did say that embargo and reviews (meaning launch day) would be Nov 25, and of course the general public more or less had good reason to believe AIB stock would be available albeit very limited based on the reference launch and based on guys like Frank Azor from AMD saying AIB stocks would exceed reference. I am not saying we were deceived or misled in anyway. We as consumers do recognize that inventory is limited so we have to plan accordingly, just like any buyer of a product which means camping in long lines. We have to make informed decisions when we plan this stuff. And given what we thought we knew, we guessed completely wrong about AIBs. AMD gave us zero indication to help us.

But just by virtue of necessity AMD lost a buyer this round in me. I was forced to pickup an RTX 3080 as it was either that or the inferior reference 6800. I'm not really saying AMD should be flamed, I'm not saying they even wronged me, I'm just speaking in terms of business. This is THEIR product. They should have attempted to coordinate with AIBs to formalize a launch day, they should have informed us as to what to expect. Because without that leadership, we were left guessing and we guessed wrong. Many people in line took off holiday hours to be able to camp.

Simply cause and effect. AMD didn't offer clear guidance on what to expect, secondary to that, neither did AIBs or retailers, and I was put in a position to either walk away with nothing for the remainder of the holiday season or pickup a 3080 which is probably a slightly better buy versus the 6800xt given that I'll now get to use DLSS and ray tracing (better performance) when I had already justified going without those features.

I bought a card with the best cooler because its the most quiet. I have not, and most likely will not OC the card. But for the loads that I put on it, its a lot quieter and cooler than say, a dual fan version of the same card.

The AIBs still lose to the 3080 on average, and while the reference 6800XT beats the 3080 in performance per dollar, the AIBs seem to give up even that crown because of the exorbitant prices. Even the "cheap" Sapphire Nitro+ at $770 is $70 more expensive than a 3080, but slower. And then try to turn on RT...

Just baffling pricing...

Completely understand.

I am an AMD fanboy, and I just joined the EVGA 3080 queue. The way I am feeling now, whoever can get me a card first at reasonable price will get the sale.

(I still feel the 3080 does not have enough memory, but I do not want to wait until March for something better either.)
