Just got this email from Newegg for the AMD 5000 black for $81.99 with a promo code for $10 off that. this is one smoking hot deal.

BTW I ordered the Arctic 64 cooler for $19.99 before it went up in price for this CPU.

Yes you should be able to oc that to almost an AMD 6400 performance easily, for a whole lot less money.

The promotion code is EMCAGBABF.

If you order more than one processor, the promo code applies to the entire order, not to each processor. However, if you order more than four processors at a time, you can get some really nice discounts. They're only $74 apiece if you order 5 to 9 units (with an extra $10 off your order if you use the promo code), and only $73 apiece if you order 10 to 19 units, and only $72 apiece if you order 20 or more. It doesn't say there's a limit. I don't know how hot this deal really is since prices are dropping so much, but if it really is a good deal, then I imagine some resellers are going to buy most of them pretty quickly. And you'll probably see a lot of them on eBay.

What would be a good oc board for this chip? I would be happy to pay about $70 or so for the mobo. I am trying to move away from my 939 set up. I have this pos 4200+ that just would not oc past an extra 200mhz. I think I stressed the chip too much with a HIGH voltage. It seems so slow.

any basic mobo with cpu voltage and clock multiplier options in bios... my ecs890 is not a candidate because u can't even change the multi... one of the biostar tforce would be good...

I've got a gigabyte 780g board, and it is working very nicely with this cpu, overclocks well.

The 5000+ seems to go no further than 3.2 ghz, regardless of board. My Asrock SATAII board is the furtherest thing from an OC beast, but that unlocked multi allows me to set it at a comfy 280fsb and give new life to the old 939/AM2CPU riser card-equipped rig. With a voltage mod, you may see 3.4 with some luck. I'm 100% stable at 3.2.

I have absolutely no need for this, yet I am strangely tempted by this crazy low combo price!

Do you guys think the cooler from the X2 4200+ will be adequate?

Should be fine if your not into overclocking it. But...

Alot a ppl hit 3.2 with it easy, for the extra horsepower why not splurge a lil
on a cooler?

$82 shipped for the CPU and 2GB RAM is a sweet deal, just ordered it now. Thanks OP! I'll have a happy daughter when it comes in :)
