Report: Microsoft is Partnering with AMD on Athena AI Chipset (UPDATED)

Bloomberg reports that Microsoft is partnering with microprocessor maker AMD to bring its Athena AI chipset to market.

edit: okay so I see the rumor mill is disputing the initials reports. Also @moinmoin brings up an interesting possibility of Athena being added as a chiplet to the existing MI300 structure. So that sort-of answers my question.

A MS spokesperson directly denied AMD’s involvement.

“Microsoft spokesperson Frank Shaw has, however, denied that AMD is involved with Athena. “

This doesn’t mean MS isn’t helping AMD with their AI efforts in some way though.

Again, how is that really relevant except for the small number of users that actually want an APU-only laptop AND care about the iGPU performance? Like I said, AMD has catered to that segment before. They got spat upon by buyers for their troubles. Intel consistently had the "best" mobile offerings of the Kaveri era despite having demonstrably worse iGPUs in most cases.

Its not my idea but someone i quote thought it could help Amd increase volume.

Also Amd can compete in that Space, you can clearly see how successful ryzen 5 5500u is, lot of premium laptop used that cpu because it has balance of everything, power usage, cpu, gpu, price were all good.

But these Mendocino? They are just dissapointment.

I've done both now and spent one long afternoon at work retracing my steps over our facilities only to notice it was shoved into my shirt pocket when I passed by a row of mirror finished doors. freezer, freezer in a container of half eaten ice cream, refrigerator, on the mower's seat. that made you fashion forward in the 90's you should have told her that. there was also the cool slip the temple in between the buttons of your button down so that it hangs effortlessly from you. top gun inspired that years before.

Ummm okay. That's not really AMD's premium mobile product, though. Phoenix and Phoenix2 are looking really strong. They should produce plenty of revenue for AMD in the coming quarters, assuming they bring enough supply to market and get the expected design wins from OEMs.
