Well I for one have always figured the drivers from AMD have been bad for some time. Well this article seems to point out that there has been no real improvement in the drivers ... even though it is short it still shows off what I have thought for a long time.

Are you... joking? They only test two games. And the article doesn't verify your argument that AMD's drivers are bad. The only thing article shows is that there is little or no difference or improvement in the tests they run between 10.12 and 11.1. Your conclusion is illogical.

well ... 10.12 we bad drivers. it placed the 6970 around a 480 performance level. The 6970 is suppose to be competitive with the 570/580 ... so yes either the drivers are horrible or the cards were just over-hyped.

Yes the article was only suppose to see if there were any big differences between the drivers ...

It doesn't mean the drivers are "bad", just that the focus of the newer drivers has been on fixes instead of performance improvements sheesh.
Read the release notes for the latest AMD and nvidia drivers, and tell me that each brand isn't working to improve things in that regard.

It is.

That article is a joke.

And next week there will be a 11.1c to fix what they broke in the 11.1b.
I think this is getting ridiculous.

They roll out more frequent driver updates the same way Nvidia brings out beta drivers. There's no difference, except they're called different things.

Hehe.. 6970~=480~=570.. AMD has no card currently that competes with 580.

Are they serious?

They test 2 games, TWO games. One of them has a tangible improvement and the drivers are bad? WTF kind of logic is that?

Those games weren't even on the list of games with performance improvements. Not every bloody driver improves performance, some add extra features, like the last driver added 5x1 eyefinity, and the one before that added EQAA.

This is all getting too much. Whats with the people around here and jumping to the most ridiculous conclusions.

Did the drivers crash a bunch? Or were they stable?

That's my test for "bad" drivers. 11.1 has been completely stable for me.

the games listed on 11.1a hotfix were ...

AMD Radeon HD 6900 and AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series:

3DMark Vantage improves ~7%
3DMark06 improves ~3%
Call of Duty Black Ops improves ~20% at 4xMSAA and up to 35% at 8xMSAA
Riddick Assault on Dark Athena SSAO performance improves ~20%
Unigine Heaven OpenGL performance improves ~10% at moderate, 30% at normal and 100% at extreme tessellation levels

AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series:

Aliens vs. Predators improves ~9% at 2xMSAA and up to 20% at 4xMSAA
Batman Arkham Asylum improves ~4%
Crysis Warhead improves ~2-4%
Metro 2033 improves ~28% at 4xMSAA

So they got a few of the games and a few of the synthetic benchmarks ...

I love my 11.1 drivers .. they are great for me

I would like to know where that list came from, cause I can't see it in the release notes in the 11.1a drivers that I have installed.

Im not surprised he didn't see it was for linux

Oh , I seen it.

In the past few months I have never seen so many hot fixes since I've owned my AMD card. Thats my point.

At this point and time if I needed to upgrade, I would have no idea what driver to pick.
Honestly. I would have to google it and do some research. Thats just sad.

A much better article testing more games.. shows the same thing, no improvement between 10.12 and 11.1.

I guess you missed an even more comprehensive article:
http://alienbabeltech.com/main/?p=23626

More games, plus Nvidia's improvement.

Note: The biggest change for the 6970 is in Battleforge. And if you looked at various reviews when the 6970 released, the 6900 cards performed relatively poorly in Battleforge compared to the 6800 and 5800 cards. The new driver shows a boost on 6900 cards but not 6800 cards, showing signs that AMD can indeed squeeze more performance out the VLIW4 architecture.

Or... you know... take the newest release from the AMD site.

But I'm not worried for you, since you're not going to upgrade.

Also, nobody mentioned that MLAA is better optimized. Doesn't blur the text in firefox and works a little better in some games according to Qbah.

Yeah, these drivers are bad.

Use the latest one. Of all the people I get new cards for, I always get them the latest driver nVidia or AMD. Never had a problem.
