yeah gotta say I'm irritated that with my dual monitor setup I can't alt_tab while in UT3 and alt-tab back into game. Frustrating cause I do that a lot for responding to chats and stuff that friends send.

Windowed mode?

websites always have them in their news section when they are released ...

Weird to complain about too many drivers when they are so hard to find though.

check out techpowerup.com news section ... they always will have every driver release:thumbsup:

You say that like its a bad thing :p

In any case, I assume you have an AMD card or else you wouldn't be so interested in their drivers. So are you unhappy with your particular AMD card? If you are. Why and why haven't you switched yet?

Honest question.

Running 11.1a - the WHQLs don't have MLAA support on HD5800 series. MLAA is greatly improved for general use. I keep it on all the time now. The text in games is less distorted too, compared to MLAA on 10.10e. Doesn't bother me at all now tbh. I still had to do a BIOS modification for my idle clocks or the bloody thing would downclock too low.

As for improvements, I don't expect any to be honest. The only thing I can imagine they would do for HD58xx or lower is to fix any performance issues in upcoming games. I don't really think any current games will gain anything substantial. At best we will get some new modes, like an official support for MLAA with 11.2 :)

I don't mind AMD pushing frequent hotfixes - if you're confused, just stick to WHQL. If you like to tinker and play around, you shouldn't be confused by a few extra hotfix releases and actually enjoy testing new things!

can't remove/hide the bar at top ugly

Some games support borderless windowed mode, like Mass Effect 2. Since it's also running on UE3, look around the config files - perhaps there's a variable for that. Or maybe there's a game setup thing like in ME2 where you can change your settings before actually running the game - no idea, I don't own UT3.

Window mode was only way I could get multi-monitor to work okay on my 9800GT, there was a few little niggly issues, that running anything I could in a window was only way to resolve. If I didn't then the second monitor 99% of the time became redundant and sometimes unaccelerated.

I can't speak for AMD on this as I've only just got an AMD card and have not tested the multi-monitor capabilities yet. I did have one thing that I didn't like with AMD's driver so far, the filtering of videos... I'd much prefer the filtering on video to be off by default.

11.1a has for me, at least fixed the power management issue of a BSOD randomly when entering power-saving mode for monitor. In actual gaming *touches wood* I've not had a single issue and with Flash, I've also not had issues, even with hardware acceleration enabled.

Well I for one have always figured the drivers from AMD have been bad for some time. Well this article seems to point out that there has been no real improvement in the drivers ... even though it is short it still shows off what I have thought for a long time.

Im sorry, are you saying this article did not show that there was no real difference in the drivers tested? I must of missed your post on you being the go to guy on everything on the interwebs

Please learn to read and comprehend what was said in the article. It shows, with the tests given, that the drivers are basically the same. Yes, they could of done more testing and all that, but they did not and it was not suppose to be a super thorough article. Just a quick glimpse into the drivers.

@AMD driver whiners

i'm on 10.10 still and haven't had any issues.

you guys worry about drivers too much. single digit performance increases really only look good on paper - albeit still welcomed by me.

"Oh sweet, I have 105 fps instead of 100". . .

Just to be clear, I'm not blaming you for the article. The article is a hack job though. They tested with games and benchmarks that AMD never claimed would have improvements. (2 of the 5 were supposed to have improvements, but only a few % improvement was claimed. Small enough to easily obfuscate.) If they didn't have the software (games/benches) to review the drivers they never should have attempted the review in the first place.

The way you start this off is like ohhh I always thought AMD had bad drivers and now u think that its still true and it hasnt changed... and u link some retarted bench site to prove ur point... but that site is merely comparing 2-3 drivers that came out within a 2 month period ... which true might not bring a lot of performance improvement... But how does that mean that the drivers suck? Maybe the Hardware cannot perform better... Does nVidia get performance improvements for every driver release... which is what every 3-4 months or sometimes even longer?
Is it better to release smaller improvements every 1-2 months or wait 4-5 months like nVidia?

Sorry but u really made me say this....

u nVidia N00b!

Ah, ok haha ... it came off like I was getting blamed :\

True, they needed better games choices

ok, I liked 10.3 and 10.8 and 10.10e. From the looks of it 11.1 are good as well.

I run a 6970 so I am not an nvidia noob, but thanks anyways
