Amazon is selling over a million Kindles a week

I don't see the point of the Fire, but then I haven't been within 50 yards of one, AFAIK. E-Ink appeals to me, it's supposed to be much easier on the eyes. If I need computer power I'll use my PCs, if I want to read it will be paper or E-Ink. I ordered my Kindle K3 Keyboard last night.
Oh, and if I want to watch a movie it will be with my projector system on a screen with an 8 foot diagonal. I don't have Bluray yet, but DVD quality should beat a Fire handily for watching video.

My wife bought me the fire for Christmas. So far I love it. But I'm not the crazy customize hack everything type of person either. I wanted it for reading, watching some movies, web surfing etc. Not looking for a desktop replacement. It will be mainly used on the road at work and if lost/broken I feel better replacing $199 fire vs $500 ipad.

The one thing I will say, which has been echoed everywhere, is that the silk browser sucks ass, real ass. Seemed laggy, and not responsive at times to the touch. I sideloaded Dolphin HD and it made a world of difference.

The browser is a little big laggy, but I have found that page loads are pretty quick. I too ended up sideloading a browser though, Opera Mini.

One thing I've noticed is that pages that tend to be laggy also have flash. So right now I'm blaming that. I wish that AT wouldn't use so many of them... ( I refuse to adblock AT, since I'm here so often...)

Got the wife a Fire for Christmas, she loves it.

My mom had purchased a Kindle keyboard version a few days prior and is returning hers to purchase a Fire.

I played with it a little, and it seems alright for what it is...I still don't really see the point in tablets. :|

"Dicking around on the internet waiting for the Ambien to kick in" seems about the extent of it.

Sorry to drum up an old post - but why are so many people "dumping" their "new" [xmas present" Kindle Fire's for sub $150 [local sellers]? Is there something wacky or wrong? [google search resulted in problems last year which I assume were fixed?]

The wife likes to read/facebook and I think it'd be a nice distraction for young children [umi zoomi app, etc] and I figure it would be a good thing for both of them.

Why no specific numbers on the Fire?

Either they're keeping it secret for competitive purposes or the sales have tapered off since the holidays. Either way, Amazon is building one hell of an ecosystem and customer base. What they really need to do going forward is to figure out how they can make a display that has both E Ink and LCD modes. If they could build that, they'd have an amazingly versatile device and would provide excellent product differentiation.

I haven't seen them being dumped. Of course with any popular product, you are going to find used ones for sale, but even used ones on Ebay are going for more than a $150.

Some of the issues with the Kindle Fire are hardware. There aren't physical volume buttons and the button to turn the screen off is located in an awkward place that makes it easy to accidentally hit. Otherwise, a lot of the early software issues have been fixed and it's really a decent device for the price.

I think the main problem is that some consumers are somehow expecting a $500 tablet experience for a $200 price. There's no way for Amazon to live up to such unreasonable expectations.
