AM2 X2 5000+

Just thought you might want to see what I got in the mail today. These are OEM cpu's, not sure when the retail version will be available. The FX60 is a 939, the X2 5000+ is AM2, 2.66ghz, 2 X 1mb L2. The FX60 will probably be listed in FS, I believe I have the 5000 sold allready.

Err... 2.66GHz? you sure about that? That would open a can of worms that I had assumed was already closed...

dude dont ****** around with my mind, are you serious the 5000 is 2.66 ???

Im gonna bury myself alive if thats true. it would mean that Am2 is 333 HT unlike what everyone else is saying that its 200 like old 939.

*no smily to show how happy I really am*

Hmm... I never said he was lying or anything of the sort, I asked if he was SURE about the clock. Try thinking a bit (and perhaps comprehending what you're replying to) before making such remarks.

And that is the can of worms I was talking about. Everything else out there pretty much points out to a 200MHz HTT for AM2...

Supposedly it was going to built for DDR2 667, so a 333MHz HTT would make more sense, in my opinion.

you guys are nutz, there is no way AMD changed the HT to anything but 200 without saying anything to anybody. Both Toms and HKEPC tested ES samples of AM2 and they never mentioned anything about the FSB being something either then 200.

Im am going to be hospitalized if the OP doesnt say somthing right now.

I thought the 5000+ model had 2x512 KB of L2 cache also? Sure you have the right specs OP?? Can't leave us hang like this!! I have to get to bed sometime yet tonight (morning).....

That's between the northbridge and the southbridge. Remember that current SLI16x (or whatever they're called) only use an 8bit link from the northbridge to the southbrige. I'm pretty sure that the HT will be 200MHz (just look at Anandtech's newer AM2 CPU revision, uses 200HTT).

Yeah. But don't you need to multiply the base system clock to generate that HTT between NB and SB? So 266 x 5 = 1330MHz. I know it's not the same as CPU clock generating and it's been always confusing to me, but at least in current NF4 this is how it works?

It looks quite clear by looking at the numbers on the IHS that the FX60 is a 2mb cahce or 1mb/core and the 5000+ is in fact a 512kb/core chip...

6= 2mb l2 cache
5= 1mb l2 cache

since we know the FX 60 is in fact 1mb/core for 2mb total we can reasonably deduct that the number is for total of both cores....

As for 266HTT...I cannot verify anything on that yet....

The big question: What difference would this make? People always claim that the HT base speed shouldn't affect memory performance and that you might as well just run the memory at higher frequency to get the higher bandwidth. I'll admit that I haven't really read up on how AMD's bus system works... Educate me! 🙂

That's what I am wondering too. The only thing I can think of is that these will be harder to overclock due to their low multipliers.

ok the OP replied to my PM. its an 8 x 333 mhz cpu. can someone please get to my house with a stretcher and a defibrillator asap please.

Wow- maybe AMD does have a suprise in store for us!! How would they keep this under wraps for this long though??

I wonder if they were able to double the L2 cache with the Z-ram tech!! So the 4800+ would have 2 x 2MB of L2 and 4600+ have 2 x 1MB, etc.?? But I thought Duvie already ruled that out so I guess that's just wishful thinking....

nn_step at extremesystems keeps saying that a different m2 (not AM2) is coming and has "something extra" to it. I take it he's under NDA if he really knows more than we all do...Any guesses here on what "something extra" might mean??

Well....maybe...depends on the processor.

333X8=2664
346X8=2768

So on an 8X multi 10 tics of the HTT puts you up 100Mhz not bad. And obviously 33 tics on the HTT puts you at 3Ghz on an 8X multi. So thats pretty nice. However.....

333X6=1998(2000)
366X6=2196 🙁 🙁 🙁

Kinda sucks! I would imagine and hope 7X would be the kinda sweet spot and hopefully the HTT will be able to shoot up 70-100 points on most Mobos like it does now(depending on the base multi) Oh well it's all numbers and guessing on my part. We'll see in a month

Holy crapz0rs!!! :Q

The weird thing is that the very first time i saw the AM2 roadmaps, they indicated it was going to be a 333 HTT.
But then all the roadmaps since indicated just 200.

The problem with this that while, sure, performance should be a bit better due to a higher HTT, OMGWTF OCing is going to suck hard i think.

I really doubt there will be mobos that can do a 450+ HTT for a while...

Man, this is gonna be interesting...

Hmm wow, i just rechecked this older roadmap
http://www.c627627.com/AMD/Athlon64/

I think it actually might just be right too.

Anyone notice how the FX-62 is a 7x400 CPU according to that? :Q

If that's actually accurate, wow.
Huge jump in HTT speed if that's actually gonna happen!

If that older roadmap is correct then OCing might not be so horrid, take that 4200+ dualie, 333x7, if you can get the HTT up to 400 then you're at 2.8 and FX-62 levels. Not too shabby eh? Thats only a 67 point hop in HTT which could be doable even on the earlier revisions and Mobo's

AM2 is looking better all the time now 😀 I may just have to sell off my current mobo/cpu/ram and get the new stuff when it comes out if its good enough 😛
