Am I the only person in the world that doesn't want kids?

Sounds like common sense to me... Unless I am so bored with life that I absolutely need to have a kid to cheer me up, I dont see it happening... Too much trouble, too much money spent, and youre stuck with them for life

no point worrying about kids if you're a virgin.

me and the gf both want kids, but neither one of us are in the position in life to even have a serious discussion about. i'm still in school and she doesn't have a good enough job.
 
at my age, i don't think i want kids. in general, people are assholes. why would my kid be any different? in fact, if the kid is anything like me, they'd be huge jackasses that i don't wanna be around.

been with my gf/finance for 7 years, i'm 30, she's 27. neither of us want kids nor have ever wanted them.

she wants to get a dog when she moves in later this year. i'm not too thrilled about that either.

Apparently I've been out-ed as the virgin, no life loser, that needs to get off teh internets and sees the real world.😱

I'm married and the wife wants kids and I don't. That could be a whole other thread by itself though.

No, but I imagine more females want kids than males so good luck finding a girl who does not want to have kids. Even if you did, you will likely be misreable come mid-life.
 
When I was younger I wanted them and thought I would be a decent Father, but I no longer feel that way, so will not be having them.

For a long time I never wanted kids and neither did my wife. It was one of the reasons I married her. We were in complete agreement. We both spent our 20's being completely selfish, living for ourselves. Collection of wealth, possessions, and experiences. Then one day, in complete unison we decided our lives were pretty hollow. Along with the change of lifestyle and career that came along, we decided that kids were not a bad idea.
6 months ago my son was born and these have been arguably the best 6 months of my life.

Um, you're not supposed to do sleep training with newborns. I had mine sleeping through the nightat 6 months.

That is true.
People without kids are usually more financially ready that they realize too, and in many cases more prepared for kids than a lot of people with kids.
I'm in the "no kids" camp, though we could easily afford and probably raise kids in a loving home.
Frankly, the 18 year plus ongoing responsibility scares me.
Are non-kid people too materialistic?

Not really. Like marriage, i think the social and economic incentives of having a kid are slowly fading away for a lot of well-off people. In the past, kids were a necessity to help support the family (free labor) and to take care of the parents when they grew older. Now, a lot of people are independently well-off and there are retirement communities and nursing homes and whatnot. I'm not saying that having children is worthless.... far from it. I'm just saying that it's becoming more and more of a "want to have" rather than a "must have". That said, does anyone know if the national birthrate is rising, falling or stabile? What about for "middle-class" to "wealthy" families (combined income above 100k or 200k for example)? Best way to tell if this trend is catching on.

::Edit:: Looked it up and it seems the birthrate in the U.S. is the highest it's been since the 50's and well above other first world nations. Interesting... might be misleading though as this could just point to better prenatal healthcare. What you'd have to do is eliminate all the single moms and accidental pregnancies and basically just focus on long-term/married couples and go by relative income level. Are wealthy people still popping out lots of babies or have they slowed down?
