Am I the only one who's not crazy about music?

Eh? I mean it's not like I hate music. I was a decently talented musician (violin and trumpet) from age 7 to 19. But I don't have any huge desire to listen to music every single possible second.

I "only" have about 2.5 gigs of mp3s. Don't put much effort into keeping up with the new music Probably only buy 1 or 2 albums in the average year, if that. I really only listen on a regular basis when working out. Don't listen in the car or anything. If I'm working or studying I'd rather be absorbed in my own thoughts.

Seems like practically everyone else I know is obsessed with getting more music and listening as much as possible. Guess I'm some kind of freak? :colbert:

Internal auditory hallucinations...some people prefer to drown them out with song, other people embrace them

To each his own good sir!

i find i only actually listen to music inadvertently in movies/tv, am fine with that now.

podcasts/audio books are better listening...

Good heavens, I'm glad I'm not like the few people here who don't seem to care about it. I love the sh*t out of it and most of my life is spent with some song going through my head. I listen to it in the car, when working, when working out, always.

I am sort of similar. I enjoy listening to music but acquisition of every new track that I like or might like isnt a high priority. if a free amazon download credit comes along i'll use it, but otherwise the number of my $ spent on music per year could be counted on 1 hand.

I believe part of it comes from the fact that I am much more visual-spatial cued. photography, diagrams, 3d modeling, drawing, etc all provide far more diversion time than listening to a song. Anything that challenges me such that I want to dissect the spatial and mechanical relationships of an object or image.

I remember hearing that smell is the most powerful trigger of memories(specifically time and location), but I suspect music has a similar effect. I'll posit that songs are probably stronger at evoking feelings or emotional states, and a lot of the drive to listen/collect all the latest tunes is part of chasing the novel sensation that came from hearing that one "bitchen" song on the radio back when.

Id like to say something here, but I don't know how. I don't have any music that can explain it either...but maybe youll understand a little bit of what I mean with just this.

OP, sounds like you haven't found any good music worth listening to. It's out there. Get an account on spotify or something and start exploring.

Same here. I would rather listen to a podcast and learn something than listen to the garbage that pop music trys to spew out. Its not all bad but in my opinion there isnt many good songs out there.

Nope, I'm just the opposite. Music is an immense part of my every day life. There is so much awesome music out there from all sorts of places that I know I'll never be able to hear it all so I'm constantly listening as much as I can. It's a great part of my day.

Listening to music used to be a huge part of my life. Now though, I have music I like and I'll listen to it, but it isn't always being played like it used to be. I am also not questing for new bands quite as much.

I used to be an avid music listener up to about couple months ago, but nowadays, I just find other things to do with my time. No new releases in Russian Rap that are worth talking about.

Music so bad it was banned from youtube. This just might make you quit music for good.
Actually it could do serious damage to your retinas as well...

Of corse now you really want to see what it is yes?

DON'T

Instead, here is one of the worst on youtube:

Excruciating, but shouldn't cause any permanent damage. Now just try to imagine something worse than that, and pretend you clicked on the first link.
