Q3 is a far superior game. But everyone has their own opinion.

The Q3 engine is MUCH MUCH better, but UT/UT 2003 doesnt have much of a chance considering its based on D3D.. OpenGL owns The Unreal engine wasnt coded very well, if you dont believe me, check the benchmarks from aways back. They were very erratic.

Plus, Carmack and the iD crew could probably retire right now and just live off the revenue the Q3 engine is bringing in right now.

UT 2003 is ALOT like UT.. Just fancier graphics, updated models and guns.. still the same boring old game IMO.

Oh. BR must mean "bombing run". I don't like InstaGib. Actually, I don't like mutators in general, especially Low Gravity. I agree with some that UT2 is just a pretty, polished UT. That's basically true. But, I still love it and I still really don't like Q3! I'd rather play any UT game than any Quake game.

Well I think I like it - it finally feels like Q3 which is a good thing.
The original UT didnt survive more than 2hrs on my HD.

Finally they have large, spinning bobing weapons that are easy to distinguish. Finally the physics seems more like Q3, finally the graphics are pleasing and close to Q3 (well actually better but somehow Q3-like, except for the artwork). Framerates are pretty good considering the visuals - something that could not be said about Unreal as well as UT.

Still not to my liking: second weapon function, autoaim on RL, RL loadable with several rockets, no RJ, little knocking/airtime on rocket impact, the Biorifle - maybe they could incorporate some new config: "never pick up weapon x..."

havent played it online yet, because ASE dont have no support (yet)

True enough, but it has one more thing that UT didn't have -- the "NFL Films" music!

Its just another shooter.

However, it has its own niche in the community. Its fast and easy to play so a lot of people are going to like it.

I honestly don't care what weapons are in it. The gameplay is good and thats why I play.

What does it mean when you've installed the demo and it tells you when you try to start it that you need dx8.1b .. when you have 8.1b ??
I even installed the latest patch and that didn't fix it either.

I had some problems with with my Win2k/GF3 freezing up - the demo patch fixed that though.

I'll use it over the assault rifle or the lightning gun. A fully charged shot of that can kill someone with full shield.

yep

it is also good to shoot at the floor in front of someone chasing you around a corner, though it is a cheap shot not needing accuracy

I use to use the bio rifle in the original Unreal because the AI would walk right over the globs. In UT it's not worth using. In UT 2003 it's much more powerful and can be used at short range with great results. The secondary fire will destroy anyone. Just don't get too close.
