333mhz AMD 'Chomper' K6-2 proc
96mb RAM
4Gb HDD
Xp Pro
& of course a floppy screen :p

i am the king of old and busted :)

Seems kinda laggy around the forums.

It was great when i freshly installed it- but my sister's been using for the last year, and it's had loads of viruses etc so its a bit slow now :(

But for word/IE/excel and winamp use, it runs great :) (or did anyway)

There's an NT 3.51 server running somewhere in the closet. I dare not try to post from that.

That reminds me of the last NT 4.0 rebuild I did. Ever try to use MSIE 3.0? Makes most sites appear to be down as it cannot recognise most sites. At least you can't get spyware with it! :p

My main machine is a DEC Alpha 500mhz with a manufacture date of 1996. The funny thing is that it still beats a p3 1.0ghz in many benchmarks.

I had a guy bring in an old gateway pentium 100mhz box that looked pristine. It had no dust whatsoever.

I'm going to reload that with 98 to make it our internet cam box, and of course I'll post from it occasionally.

running 98 i guess? (or NT)

"Windows 2000, Service Pack 4" - it's a IBM "Personal Computer" 300PL. Our corporation sucks when it comes to technology... they give managers and higher-ups amazing setups that never get used whereas the front line workers that would actually benefit from better systems slog around with peices of sh!t like this. They also purchased 300+ iPAQ 3900 series Pocket PCs for use in field work and managed to completely waste all that money by never implementing or trying any software which was/is job-related. They're referred to as the "solitaire devices" now.

Yeah trying to install and update nt4 was a treat. (Last time for me was almost 2 years ago though; IE3 was definitely non-functioning with newer sites!)

there are slower machines than yours in the office, but I obviously don't use those :p

so you win over me no question !

The slowest thing I have right in front of me is a PII Xeon 450MHz. Slot 2 CPU with a heatsink on it that looks like a 100 wpc car amp. The whole computer is here actually, it's a Dell Precision WS. Has a huge workstation card in it, 3D Labs Oxygen AGP. Three fans on it. I'll take a pic in a min since someone wanted to see what an SD20 can do. :)

screen hinges are loose so it just collapses unless you prop it up- makes it rather pointless as a laptop i'm afraid :(

true?

Yes, it is. We have 5 of them running here. We have a few special people who haven't been upgraded, since they don't really touch their computers, anyway.

Nothin' a rolla duck tape can't fix!

how will duct tape save me here?

seriously, anyone with suggestions as to how i can make it non-floppy again, or at least easily lock it in a position so i can take it too classes again?

Take the screen off, and insert rubber grommets one either edge of the hinges. It should keep it open with just friction.

once i've solved the rounded off screw head problem(http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...tid=38&threadid=1550357&enterthread=y) i'll give that a shot :)
