Your story is very similar to that of a family I used to know. The only difference is that the wife left the glass on the counter, and it was clear bug poison, not christmas tree preservative. It took several years for the multiple cancer tumors to slowly eat it's way through the husband, his wife and daughter watching him slowly die. They even lived in florida.

After watching what that family went through, I never drink any liquid that I didn't freshly pour myself (or wasn't poured expressly for my consumption). You should be counting your blessings!

He should be busting his butt doing stuff for you to make up for the worry he caused not to mention the possible harm it could have caused you ... luckily it didnt turn out to be poisonous ...but he didn't know that.
