I went to the gym monday night with a few friends... I usually go about once a week... Pretty much everytime i go, 2 days later i get incredibly sore and its hard for me to move my arms... Its not like im maxing out each time i go, i lift around what i think isnt easy, but isnt impossible.

Could i be stretching incorrectly or not enough?? Always seems to be centered around my triceps and shoulders...

its because your only going once a week, and you prob need to stretch more.

work out at least 3 times a week or not at all.

each day work a diff part of the body.

i actually just got done working out, i usually work out 4 times a week.

With all honesty...I think you're doing a fine job working out. You see....to build muscle efficiently, you must go through this pain. What happens: The increased stress on the muscle fibers causes the muscle to stretch and stretch....until it rips. Once it does that, take a few days off and it will start to repair itself. This is why body builders eat so much protien....to speed the repair process. Once the muscle repairs, it will be a little swollen, but will become stronger overtime until you break the next point and end up lifting more weight. Keep lifting and you'll eventually plateau........eventually, you'll jump up again and be building muscle. Just eat red meat and green veggies..... 😉

Thanks for the info...

What im wondering about is why my triceps always hurt the worst, their pretty big already compared to all the other areas i work out, i would think they should hurt the least.

ROTFL!

<< It does rip though... well tear, from what i remember >>

That's bullsh1t. You really think you tear up your muscles, and HAve to do so to gain muscle? It's a legend. Working out is simply stimulating the muscle to grow larger.

BTW, It seems to be a trend. Just because someone is a member on AT means they know nothing about anything but computers? Excuse me?

when i asked why you were laughing, i was asking out of curiosity.

In high school i was taught that the tiny fibers in your muscles do rip during excercize and then grow back larger after a few days. Hence the pain and lack of strength following the workout.

Sorry if i was informed incorrectly but geeze, just tryin to find out some answers.

Exactly. I think the technical term is "microtears" but I could be wrong. Nevertheless, this is exactly how you build up. It's also similar to the way braces for teeth work - press the tooth against the bone, kill the bone on one side where it's pressing and build it up on the other side. It's definitely not a completely out-there type of process.

warm up better.

start on ligher weights then build up to what your working. Warm up dynamically and not just stretching. So do the same reps and movements but with about 40% or so of the weights to start off with and then build up to the work out itself. And warm down also properly if you don't want to feel the pain, but either way your still going to feel it if your only working out once a week. Once you step if up to 3x a week the pain is less and doesn't affect as much at all. You will start to recover very fast after the first month of working out 3x a week. Just eat more, drink lots of water and train hard🙂

Better to train at least once a week then NOT AT ALL. The hours you put it do BUILD up eventually so it makes all the difference. If your not going at all you will get no results or little from what you do if you don't go, but if you go you will get results.

When your workout, your body (muscles) create lactic acid as a waste product. This is part of what causes the painful ache a day or two later. Stretching and making sure that you drink plenty of water will help to reduce this. Over time, you won't hurt so badly, but after a good workout, you will still feel it. If you are especially sore, you can also take ibuprofen to help reduce inflammation. Don't take too much though as it can irritate your stomach.

That is normal.. It happend to me.. One way to fix it.. is go more often, at least three times a week, or dont go at all.
