If you have family in Cuba then you can go for a limited time. I long for the day that we can freely travel to Cuba. I love Cuban food.
Having been, it's pretty much like any other Latin American country. Except everybody's equally poor. People are very nice though. You don't get the crime there either like you do in Mexico. Probably safer than a lot of big US cities.
I think once Castro dies, you'll see the country open up in the same way China did after Mao kicked the bucket. There's already some foreign investment taking place by Canadian, European, and Chinese firms. Lot's of interest in mining and off shore oil. Tourism is also pretty big from the same countries. Due to the political turmoil in Venezuela, they don't really have any regional economic allies anymore.
Just one thing to note, American made Cuban food is probably better than the authentic stuff, due to higher quality ingredients being available. Meat especially.
