Always forgotten hot deal, give free food with a click

It's probably been across this board before, but this is a hot deal to help others for just a moment of your time a day. I did a search, but didn't find it. I go here and click on every tab each day, and have been doing it since my freshman year in college (with a few missed days like anyone). That's 6 years...

Check it out, I hope you will find it's a great deal too!

Cheers for a great site and a great cause. I religously click on thehungersite.com every day, although I can't say that I have as long of a track record (6 years is pretty tough to beat).

Nice post OP!

I don't understand how sites like this work. How could it possibly be of value to anyone that I visit their website and click a button? Does the site install spyware on my computer or something like that?

Sign up for their email and they will send you a daily (Mon-Fri only) or a Sat-Sun reminder to click for the Hungersite. Or you can Op out of the reminder and just get the Newsletter. You can sign up here at the Hunger Site email signup, or click on the link to the right on the home page that says "give more food". By doing so you give two extra cups of food for the day and they give you a coupon for a free Dove Pin for signing up if you are new to the Hunger site. Remember their are six tabs to click on for various, needly organizations. So click on the respective tabs because each site has it's own donation, ie. the Breast Cancer site gives mammograms to needy women.

1) The Hunge rsite
2) The Breast Cancer site
3) The Child Health site
4) The Literacy site
5) The Rainforest site
6) The Animal Rescue site

thanks Axoliien! and very nice list, esquared

a couple other sites that involve a bit more than a click, but that offer free donations

SticksOfHope.com
Nestle will donate $0.25 for each free hopeful message you send to a child with cancer.

Paws to Recognize
Vote for a canine hero and Pedigree will donate $25,000 to the American Humane Society if they get 100,000 votes by July 14, 2006
(they have 73,643 votes as of 7/12/06)

they make money through ads they put on the site

Exactly - if you notice, some days there will be fewer advertisers and so less total donation. Each advertiser donates the same amount, so 8 advertisements on the clicked page will be more donation then 4 advertisers on the clicked page.

A more exact and clearer description than I can make is given here

"But despite its name CharityUSA is not a registered charity, it is a for-profit organisation, owned by a company called Homeline Publications, which gives "a percentage" of its profits to charity."

This company owns all the hungersite and relatives.

lol, pwned!

What state is Homeline Publications located in? A brief letter bringing this to the attention of that state's Attorney General would get them shut down, if their laws are anything like my state's.

These phony charities make me sick.

Hmmmm..... From the Hunger Site FAQ:
"The staple food is paid for by The Hunger Site sponsors and distributed by America's Second Harvest and Mercy Corps...
All of the money collected from our sponsors for their banner advertisements -- 100% of sponsor banner advertising -- goes to our nonprofit beneficiary organizations. Funds are split between the two beneficiaries with 70% going to fight hunger internationally. The remaining 30% goes to support hunger relief efforts in the United States."

I read the referenced articles, then looked at the Hunger site web. I certainly want it to be legit as I used to be religious about clicking every day. So the question is, how much of their income comes from "their banner advertisements" and how much is sourced elsewhere?

Though it may be for profit, I'm still clicking each and every day because at least some of that money goes to a charity... Because at least SOME money is going to a charity rather than none.

I'd give to a charity if I had the funds to 🙁
