Hi, Im Paul,
I'm 6'0, and weight about 170ish.
My Friiend is 5'8 and weighs 160ish.

We're pretty serious about gettin ourselves pretty toned.
We're ganna probbaly start out working out about 2 times a week, maybe eventually 3.
We were wondering if we're going to be getting any good results in about 2 months, by doing all kinds of different workouts, and focusing on the body as a whole.

Should we be buyin some kinds of suppliments and proteins ? Can you guys recommend some ?

Anywhere we can find some good routines we can do ?

Any recommendations we can have, are all appreciated and accepted.

Thanks for everything.

Edit:
Alrite, new problem,
I only hav time for 3 days a week as I said before, but the days will probably be in order, right after each other. Will this serve a problem, since its not every other day and i dont hav time to rest the mescles , or do you think I can still somehow work out to my advantage. Can someone help me make a routine of some sort. Nothing detailed just basic stuff of wat to do each day.

I feel that I may be scewed :-(

Look up program called Starting Strength.

It is a 3 day/week full body barbell program, and in 2 months you would start seeing some results.
Don't worry about supplements and stuff now, just remember to eat BIG and healthy.

Another site to ponder: www.stronglifts.com

edit: some more:

Start with 3 times a week. Two times is too little for much progress unless you hit your entire body really hard. You can get some pretty good results on the above programs in about 2 months. You don't need any supplements. You don't need anything other than your work ethic, some focus, and barbells.

Also, I'm slightly confused as to what you wanna do just by saying "toned." Do you wanna get bigger or do you wanna reduce your body fat? Usually those are two different processes so keep that in mind.

Lift heavy 3x a week focusing on getting stronger on compound movements and try to eat plenty of lean protein sources.

Don't worry about supplements at this stage. Get your diet in check, get some protein, and maybe a multi-vitamin, and that'll be good enough for a while (or forever).

1/3 Diet. 1/3 Exercies. 1/3 Rest. Make sure you mix in some cardio w/ your weight lifting, it will help you achieve your "toned" goal more efficiently. I'd recomment looking into the 12 week body program, I've had tremendous success in only my first 5 weeks.

if getting in shape or "toned" is truly important to you, you'll make it a priority and make time for it. as a general rule, you should NOT lift on consecutive days as your body needs time to recover. Without this recovery time, your progress may be impeded. fix your schedule or expect poor results.

No. Fix your schedule.

I (respectfully as possible) disagree. A split routine of the sort you describe is better than nothing, although you won't receive the same sort of benefit you'd see from starting strength. The result ends up resembling a bodybuilding routine, not starting strength. Avoid working the same muscles repeatedly, eat right, and sleep. You won't be "fine," but it's better than not lifting at all.

Wrong. Getting tone is almost all diet. Probably 80% diet, 20% exercise. Rest is important, but is passive. Making sure to let muscles rest is all you really need to do. No real work involved in doing that.

For someone who is new, a regular schedule and predetermined workout plan made by a professional are best. You cant work out 3 days in a row and expect to get the same results. It takes an hour a day, 3 days a week. That's nothing. Get up an hour earlier. Make the time, really.

I assure you. That anybody is going to achieve a more toned body much quicker, and will look much better, if they are eating well, exercising, and letting their muscles rest as I said. You don't get toned tight muscles by eating well, thats the fat person way of losing weight w/o doing much.

You're actually quite wrong there. If I ate 3500 calories and exercised, ate "well," and rested, I would gai serious weight. Diet is where it's at - it needs to be recorded and worked on actively always. Rest, like I said, involves no real work. It is the absence of work and therefore no thought goes into it. I wouldn't be surprised if some people who are cutting spend an hour+ a day planning out that day's diet. Diet is king. I could get ripped as hell monitoring my diet intensely and doing minor exercise. The skew is NOT an equal 1/3 for each. When you've cut, come back and talk to me. You'll realize the workouts are the easy part and the meal-planning is where most people fail.

Lol, doing that currently and after making it through the first month, you have no idea how easy it's been. I was simply saying that there are three parts to getting in good shape. That's what the 1/3's were for.

I would go really early in the morning, so my muscles would have 22 hours of rest each day till next workout. I know you guys think its easy to make time every other day, but it certainly isnt. 8am - 11am wed thurs fri lets say. i cant make exceptions, just tell me if it works or not, or should i just do 2 days a week with one day of rest in between ??

Thanks.

You can't work the same muscle groups days in a row so if you found a program that worked different groups on a three day split, you could do that. However, you'd probably be sore as hell working out three days in a row (at least at the beginning). Go with the two days a week if you can't fit three days into your schedule (which you should to try to do).

For your viewing pleasure, my routine from Freshman year of college, when I was dumb and training 6 days a week. Note that your progress adding weight with this type of routine will not be as fast, and while you will get cut (especially if you diet properly) and your muscles will be 'pretty,' as my HHP-major friend put it, and you will be able to run (or, erm, engage in other 'endurance activities') forever, you will not get particularly powerful or massive. Everything is 4x12 with as much weight as you can manage, unless otherwise noted.

Every day, unless the involved muscles are dead:
Abs of some sort, x100, split up however
Grip exercise, til lactic acid is too much

Day 1
Box for warmup
Bench
OH press
Triceps Extensions
Dumbbell curls
Preacher curls
dumbbell laterals

Day 2
Run for warmup
Pull-ups, one set to failure, more if you feel like it
Lat pull-downs, 3x12
Rows, dumbbell or seated cable
shrugs
weighted roman chair back extensions to taste

Day 3
light jog for warmup
Squats
Leg press, pick a weight and fail 4 times
Seated iso leg extensions
leg curls
calf raises (or jump squats)
lunges

This is a stupid routine and you shouldn't do it. I chose it because the appropriate equipment was close together, and it avoids training the same muscles twice in a row (except core and forearms and secondary stress on some arm and shoulder muscles).

Alrite so me and my friend worked out our entire bodies for 5 hours non stop in the gym this morning. Are we going to feel it in the morning tomorrow ?

That depends what you did. My workouts can take a ridiculously long time, but I can not imagine spending five hours at the gym being productive.

If you spent those five hours doing proper circuit training, or lifting heavy, of course you will feel it. If you spent those five hours waiting in line to use machines or walking back and forth from the drinking fountain, you will not feel it.

In any case, that's too long at the gym, unless you're some sort of special unique snowflake who is different from everyone else and requires a special workout.
