Okay? You buy Oriental Rugs, Oriental Art and people come from ASIA~~~!!~~!~!~~! The Orient refers to things not a place!!! If you are of ASIAN decent from ASIA, then you are ASIAN. The idea that you can refer to yourself as oriental boggless my mind.. GAHHH!!!

o·ri·en·tal ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ôr-ntl, r-)
adj.
often Oriental Of or relating to the countries of the Orient
or their peoples
or cultures; eastern.
Oriental Of or designating the biogeographic region that includes Asia south of the Himalaya Mountains and the islands of the Malay Archipelago.
Lustrous and valuable: oriental pearls.

Of or relating to a genuine or superior gem: an oriental ruby.
Relating to or designating corundum that resembles another stone in color.

I'm ranting about it being a general term that people use to refer themselves and the people that aren't but are ASIAN. If you are from Asia south of the Himalaya Mountains and the islands of the Malay Archipelago, then by all means call yourself Oriental. :|

You guys just dont understand it! Of course it refers to the People and the Countries, but you aren't from the ORIENT. Its like saying "Hi, i'm Western Hemispherean"

Which would be correct, no?

No we aren't understanding you. What in particular are you trying to teach us? Please be very clear and with examples. Your anger hides your true meaning and thus we don't understand your post.

Try writing something like this:

Oriental is a term related to locations, things, and people. There are oriental countries, oriental objects, and oriental races. Of course you have to be from the oriental contries to be oriental. For example, people in Russia are Asian, but are not oriental since they are not from the oriental countries. So thus, asian is different than oriental.

It would be correct, but you look like a moron by saying so. It seems that it would be more appropriate to say, I'm North American, or American, etc.

Well it was a rant, so it disqualifies any sense of grammar or proper explanation.

Thanks Dullard for making it more clear. 🙂

If by appropriate you mean more specific. It's hardly moronic to use a general (but factual) term to describe something/someone.
