Alpha Centauri remake- Will it ever come?

I've watched as Firaxis has come out with Civ 4, Pirates!, Colonization etc.

But I'm still waiting for the day when they announce a new version of Alpha Centauri!
I'm I crazy? Am I the only one waiting for this. Or does anyone else know and love
AC and want to see it brought to life again?

The guy behind it (Brian Reynolds) left Firaxis:(

If it came, it would likely not be as good.

A kid who plays AC is arguably better exposed to the wisdom of top minds of humankind than many who get a 4 year degree. Even though I think it had room for improvement, AC was top notch in it's concepts, and it's baffling that more games do not aim for that level of integration of creativity, fun and learning.

A remake would be great, though to get it right would require a producer who could embrace the themes of altruism, personal growth and civility. Maybe EA! ;)

Civilisation 1 was fantastic... Civ2 built on that and polished it a bit... AC put a twist on things and came out with the best Civ-type game...

Everything else pales in comparison.

Organic superlubricant? Oh its great stuff great stuff! You really have to keep an eye on it though, it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Yeah that was a fun game, i wasent too keen on the expansion though, mindworms dont need artillery and those aliens always seemed to wipe out the other factions too quickly. Fair enough i guess since that was the premise of the expansion "alien crossfire", its in the name.

I defo had more fun with AC than with any of the civ games.

i sure hope so, but the trend of PC gaming seems like games tend to get more dumbed down for the masses.

Or to quote Zero Punctuation on his review of Bioshock...

Dumbed down for the console 'tards

I sincerely hope they remake it eventually, I think the time is ripe. Civ IV came out relatively recently, and its be expanded multiple times and upgraded with Colonization. It'd be better to see a SMAC 2 before Civ V.

Occasionally in interviews with Firaxis people they mention a SMAC remake. Never any real information, but at least they know people want it and are keeping it in mind.

THANK YOU! That's why it was so freaking great! It was more than a just play it game.
The history and story that went with it along with how things could play out between the factions made for a very in-depth experience.

I hope if they do come out with a sequel it's soon and at least just as good as the first one!
It had a steep learning curve and I'm surprised that even I feel it should stay that way.

If it comes, it will be dumbed down for the masses like Civ 4. Don't get me wrong, Civ 4 was a fun game, it just wasn't as much as I wanted.

An AC remake would lose the brutality and hostility that made AC so awesome

AC is one of my favorite games. I pretty much bought it on a whim after reading the review in PC Gamer (I forget what they gave it, 98%, 100%? but it was the highest score ever). I'd love to see a sequel/remake

Same! I also saw a few big ads for it in PC gamer, thought the name looked cool. Initially i played it like c&c building lines of sensor towers thinking they were like obelisks of light and would fire lasers, i was a bit miffed when the enemy just walked right over them but really good game once i got the hang of it.

I agree, AC was just as much about governing decisions as it was military. Quite an intellectual game. In fact I still play at least once a week it's that good. Bring it on I say!

Good luck with that. Getting it to run under XP was a crapshoot.

Heh, I have all the Civ games (minus the expansions), plus AC. Well, the first Civ game I played after AC (Civ 3?), I remember being really disappointed by how comparatively weak the modern day nukes were compared to planet busters :(.

It has been years since I played this. You could create your own units in this game like you can in GC2 right?
