Speaking of remakes, how about Master of Magic.

Stardock tried to buy the rights to make the sequel to Master of Magic, but they wanted too much for it. They are making their own Master of Magic now called Elemental: War of Magic. An open beta starts in June if you pre-order.

AC is one of my favorite games. I pretty much bought it on a whim after reading the review in PC Gamer (I forget what they gave it, 98%, 100%? but it was the highest score ever). I'd love to see a sequel/remake
Nerve gas + 2000 years of sanctions FTW

they gave Crysis a 98% as well

it would just make too much sense to release such an awesome game. such has not been the trend of the general PC game development.

i don't know what firaxis is waiting for, but i wouldn't be surprised if civ5 comes out before another smac.

Yeah, most publications have fallen into ruin of late. I blame the commercialism and corruption, also the bribe taking to give good reviews.

I think its very likely. SMAC2 would be cash in the bank for a company like Firaxis, and SMAC is regarded as one of the best games of its generation. Firaxis recently went through a move to Maryland, which is probably why we haven't heard about any new projects, but i'm sure they are up to something.

To me the original is still very playable.

I guess some new graphics would be nice. Maybe some new factions and design shop choices.

But the tech tree and secret pojects? Still legendary today.

i just read the wiki on this game. i never played a turn based strategy before ( was always a RTS guy), but it seems pretty cool.

could i get into the genre by playing this game?

I love SMAC too and hope that they'll make a SMAC-2 but I'm not going to hold my breath. If they were going to do it I think they would have done it already. However, sometimes old, successful games will receive sequels or remakes years later. I agree that I wouldn't have much confidence in anyone to make a good sequel because of the trend towards consolization. I do think it becomes an increasingly dicey proposition the longer it takes because fewer and fewer current gamers will remember the game as time goes on.

Interesting necro.. don't even remember posting in this one, but yeah, like I said before, AC was awesome .. I might try to find my disc and play again.
