Anyone else watch the pissing match between Bill O'Reilly and Al Franken on CSPAN2? It was a BookWatch segment which included Molly Ivins but most of the fireworks were between Bill and Al.

Unlike his show O'Reilly had to sit still while someone skewered him . . . using just the facts. Franken apparently caught him in a lie and subsequent spin. Basically, Franken not only called him a liar in a public forum but I think O'Reilly was on the cover of Franken's book. Fortunately, they were on opposite sides of the stage b/c it looked like O'Reilly wanted to jump him.

I would have paid to see that. :D

Franken can be annoying at times, but O'Reilly is like Limbaugh. Making things look as if he trounced the opposition, but in reality he often wins by clever editing and selection of guests he can win against. A fair fight. er, debate would be good to see.

It was not pretty. O'Reilly, like every other American with an opinion, is absolutely right about some things but totally misrepresents perspectives he wants to discredit. Franken kind of ambushed him so I felt a little sorry for O'Reilly. Not only is O'Reilly on the cover of a book about lies (and liars) but Franken spent at least 10 minutes detailing the minutiae of a particular O'Reilly lie . . . O'Reilly's claim that his former gig (Inside Edition) had won a Peabody Award.

The irony was outstanding but Franken was quite brutal while smiling in the man's face. O'Reilly essentially popped his cork several times but I give the man credit for abstaining from physicallyattacking Franken . . . then again it was a live telecast in front of a group of publishers.

I would pay real money to see this. Does C-Span sell thier broadcasts like PBS?

Most intellectual liberals are by nature are to soft a refain from personal attacks and simply get rolled over by the bombastic Limbaugh or Orielly. Not, Franken.:)

:D

Is someone going to vid-cap it for us that don't get c-span2? please:D

O'Reilly is a bit bombastic and I'd be interested to see this "beat-down":) - even if it comes at the hands of Franken.

I wonder if Fox will pick up on this make it into it's next political show:p - THAT would be entertainment :D

If Fox broadcasts it, you can bet the editing gods will make it look like O'Reilly mopped the floor with Franken ;)

no - not this debate - but a whole new show dedicated to having politician wanna-bes "debate" each other. Think Sunday morning political shows but spiced up a bit with head to head "debate" using outspoken people as the "debators" - but the only stipulation is that it'd have to be live;) (minus the 5 sec "oh S#it" delay) I think to spice it up a bit to make it different from those sunday morning shows - you could maybe have the moderator open the show but then let them go...and on ...and on...:p Then at the end have the moderator break in for the "final thoughts" where each gets 1 min to sum up his arguments without interference from the other guy.

Cmon - it'd be fun :D Kinda like Face the Nation meets Springer :D

You know, I kind of like the idea, but I would make it a reality show. Take your idea, but whoever wins has to live with the consequences of his own policy. :D

O'Reilly is doing an interview right now. He has no idea what's about to come his way. Midnight Eastern . . . 9PM for the West Coast wankers.

If anyone doesn't get C-SPAN2, but you have broadband, you can go here, and watch it live with WMP or Real Player.

It'd bring some "spice" or "sexyness" :)Q uhhh yeah...did I just type that? :p) to sunday morning politics - heck, you could even move it to a premium time slot if you could get enough people to volunteer to debate.:D
I'm also toying with the idea that they could have tag-team matches - like Rush& O'Reilly vs Sharpton&Franken? , Daschle&Kennedy vs Lott&McCain :D

I think it'd hit big :D What is Murdoch's ph#? :p

Nice. If I was at home I would record it too with my AIW card on the downstairs system. :)

Isn't it nice how we are all working together in a bipartisan way to the common goal of our entertainment? :Q ;)

LOL.

For those waiting for the fireworks . . . you've got a while. I'm not sure how long Molly Ivins talks but I believe they were suppose to limit initial comments to 10-15 minutes. O'Reilly follows Ivins and then Franken pulls up the rear.

I hope this isn't too long - I only have 5 gb of space free on the drive it is set to record on

You may want to wait for O'Reilly if not Franken. The total time is about 2hrs. Everybody does their book/self promo and then Bill and Al get personal. Pat Schroeder directs some questions to the panel and Bill and Al get personal. Eventually they get to questions from the audience and Bill and Al get personal.
