But I'm all of a sudden really wanting to logon. At least roll a new toon, just for a bit, so I wont have all any friends or guildies asking me to do stuff.

But I have come to the conclusion that W.o.W. is worse than any drug addiction or habit. At least drugs give you a buzz, and the cost keeps those under control. But WoW is just time, your life, you soul. And for what? Its just something to do. To keep your self busy, at the expense of your girlfriend, family, hobbies, studies, work.

Ive also almost cut Television out of my life, only movies now. I somehow feel more 'in tune' of reality, for lack of a better term. But I really want to play so W.o.W. right now. :(

Go out and get ice cream. :) Or find somewhere to play a round of disc golf with some buddies.

It's far less likely to kill you, and at least you're not trembling and vomiting all over the place while you're detoxing.

I fell for you man. I played shadowbane, the withdrawl is hard but it passes. Just move onto fps and you wont get addicted.

So far I got one char to 45 and one to 44. I play every day but I'm not addicted. Most days, after 15 min or so I get frustrated with how boring it is and log out. The game just doesn't reward you enough.

I started WoW when it launched, and quit after about a year. I played casually due to work and other interests.

Ultimately I stopped playing because when I saw how many days and hours I wasted on this game, reality hit me: I could have spent all those hours working out, or doing something more productive. I stopped cold and never played that game again.

I'm the same way. A lot of the times, I'll log on and look at my quest log and just say "meh" and log off. The only times I really play for a while is if my friends want to run an instance or do group quests together.

I have icecream in the freezer, and I have no friends and my girlfriend is long gone. But I think I'll try real Golf. I could handle and enjoy that all alone. Thanks of feeding me that idea.

And ggnl, no. I've experimented with mary jane a bit, never could afford the other stuff and would never put a needle in my arm. I've seen want happens to ppl, some I considered friends when they started shooting and looking sick all the time.

I've never played it, and never plan to. Mostly b/c of the monthly fee, but honestly, I've seen my friend play it (and he's a lvl 70 something), it looks BORING

Weird... it had the opposite effect for me. I quit for almost 2 years and only recently joined again because two friends of mine are playing more regularly. During my 2 years off I had minimal desire to ever log in again. I guess it would be harder now to have no desire, because there is so much more endgame content and it's so much more accessible to smaller groups.

Like Anandtech Forums? To me they have consumed much more time than WoW...and I have several toons. Plus when I'm playing WoW I'm actually doing something (interacting with other people, having fun, etc).

Awesome, very glad you decided to quit. I quit twice and played for a total of about 9 months between quiting twice and have been free of wow now for about 6 months. It really is all about helping your guild friends progress. The reward structure is very bad. When 98% of guilds that have been playing for 2 years cannot finish the content before the expansion comes out you know something is wrong. Only the rare elite guilds with fanatical players achieved that goal.

I disagree. There is always stuff to do. PVP in the battlegrounds, do some Arena team work, spec and work toward gearing your character toward more difficult dungeons to run. Hours and hours of fun fun fun....it never ends. Plus WoW saves money. You can pay 15 bucks a month and not have to worry about buying other games.

I feel your pain. I used to be an EvE addict, now I just log in to steal ore and gank barges in haulers.

one of the problems with wow is that there's not enough quests and decent quest rewards from 1-60, but with the expansion they crammed 3284083290578 quests and TONS of decent rewards into 61-70. so much that there's times you get a new piece of gear but then replace it when quests in the next zone give you a replacement that is 1 stat point better or something.

i can't imagine doing 1-60 again because of the lack of quests and the need to grind and do instances to level.
i can't imagine doing 61-70 again because it boggles my mind how many quests there are. it seriously feels like there's more quests in these 10 levels than in the 60 that came before. :(

Sounds like you're one of those people who has a severe personality disorder, yet you choose to blame the substance to which you are addicted, rather than your own shortcomings.

If a video-game is seriously causing you to make sacrifices to your personal life, you have issues. But by all means, blame the game - you're not at fault at all.

Here is the rub....

TV, playing games, watching movies, etc...it's all the same to me really.

Personally I have been playing games like WoW since the 90's. I find it akin to "aol" chat (read this as IRC) on steroids. You get to meet and talk with a lot of people. It's more stimulating than any 'canned' entertainment.

However; nothing can replace getting out and really mingling with someone. I am married now...but when single I couldn't afford to really go out 7 days a week and most free deals (B&N, starbucks, etc) aren't my speed. I used to go to most of the singles gatherings that I saw advertized and even those, some were total misses filled with prudes more interested in repelling dating than find one.

WoW and gaming is not the problem really....however if you find yourself not talking to at least a handful of people in person everyday (working in customer service doesn't count ;) )...then you need to get out more.

my advice to you is to never do hard drugs. if you think wow is a tough addiction to break...
