Here's the most likely scenario that I can think of:

It's the fall of 2005. Mommy and Daddy decide to buy you a computer after months of begging.

They let you decide what computer you want and you ignorantly opt for an AGP rig because you didnt do your research.

Over a year pass and you finally realize that your system isnt fast enough to play the games you want. But wait, you remember reading the thread in the OP saying how there would be no more AGP video cards. DANG! Now what are you going to do?

So you ask mommy and daddy for a new computer but they say no and now you have a problem. You're going to have to pay for it yourself! So you jump on the computer and amazingly you find that you can get a sup3r l337 X1950Pro AGP! ZOMG!

Now you go back to mommy and daddy and tell them that instead of buying a new $3000 Dell, they only have to pay $300 for an X1950Pro and you'll stop bugging them.

They agree. Mission accomplished. In your face Anandtech!

Why are people so passionate about a freaking bus format for PC's? This is even worse than being a video card/CPU manufacturer fanboy. In fact it is hilarious.

I have an AGP system (see sig) which I used a 9800 in from May 03 - Apr 06. I bought the 6800GS in Apr 06 for something retarded like $270CDN (at the time, the 7800GS AGP was $380CDN here). Outrageous considering the 7900GT was roughly $300CDN at the time (from what I can remember). The card offers enough performance to play most games (even Oblivion) at decent detail and was a stop gap as I waited for C2D (which I will be building a new PC based off soon).

I could probably get $125-150 at most for this card now, over 50% depreciation in a year.

Not sure what the point of my post was, other than to say it is funny when people get passionate about a bus format. (VESA LB rules by the way -- NV's new 8900GTX ain't got nothing on the Trident 8900C 1MB VLB!).
