jamesbond007, there have been whole agencies switching from Canon to Nikon with all the gear changing that entails (& my understanding is that in at least some cases guys started by buying/paying for their own Nikon gear & once the rest saw the difference in results the move became official policy).
You only have to look at pictures of the last 2 Olympics to see a change in % of Canon & Nikon pro users.

Do you have any references or links to companies switching? I've seen bogus pictures from the Olympics because in one frame, you'll see 90% Canon and in another you'd see 60 or 70% Canon and the rest Nikon...sometimes it'd flip-flop. I wasn't there, so I really don't know and really don't care. I just want to know the causes for switching; not some little bitch whining because his camera isn't working like he wanted to or that his lens is not working 100%. Yeah, I know there may be lemons, but c'mon - this is the world of electronics where stuff is bound to fail. There are a LOT of components in these cameras that make them work and I think some old-time shooters just don't get that. In the film days, you had film, sometimes a motor, a mirror, and a couple other mechanical parts...

I know a few guys on FM that went to the Olympics were paid by Nikon to dump their Canon gear. They received monetary compensation by Nikon as well as (what I totaled up to be) about $75-$80,000 in gear. That could possibly be a reason to why you may see more Nikon camps popping up at tier-1 events.

The weather sealing seems to be similar to that of the D700- rubber seals here and there and around the buttons (at least the top mounted buttons).

The 5DII VF has better specs

The difference in resolution is very noticeable to that of the D700.

D700/D3 low light AF is nothing to write home about.

The 5DII is nearly perfect for the intended audience. Canon sells more sports/action oriented cameras at several price points.

Nikon decided to screw all those that bought D3s buy selling the same camera 6 months later for $2000 less.

At least Canon left something for the 1Ds crowd to overpay for.

That could be the strangest argument I've heard yet for defending the 5D2's deficiencies.

I just looked at DPReview's sample shots, and the 5DmkII looks perfectly usable at ISO3200. Shadow noise becomes a problem at ISO6400, but detail is still preserved. ISO12800 looks for emergency use only, and ISO25600 looks terrible (but go figure, that's two stops into the 5-digit ISO range).

i really hope that pair of olympus cameras is dpreview standardizing a sample. there is some banding at 25600, but 12800 looks better than a lot of compacts

with this camera you could easily handhold a wide open short portrait zoom in candlelight.

No kidding! Debating between this and the 1Ds3...I really don't think I'd be in love with the video capabilities simply because I'm never hired for that, but I suppose it's something I could add to my menu of offerings. ;)

Quite the camera in such a small package, that's for sure!
