AFAIK there are still monuments remaining in Germany that recognize German soldiers who died in WWII, even though they were fighting for the cause of Nazism. I would think there's a reason why Jews insist that the concentration camps in Germany, Netherlands and Poland remain and not be demolished. I assume they're reminders of the horrors of what happened there, and they not be forgotten by history so that history is not repeated. I'm not Jewish, so I don't know specifically why they allow them to remain.

I am, and this is 100% correct. What remains of those camps is a monument to the dead, and a warning to future generations.

I mentioned awhile back about a trip to Austin, TX where I visited the state capitol. There is a monument there to the confederate dead. Which in and of itself, wouldn't be such a bad thing. Except for the fact that the inscription says this:

Died for States Rights guaranteed under the Constitution. The people of the south, animated by the spirit of 1776, to preserve their rights, withdrew from the federal compact in 1861. The north resorted to coercion. The south, against overwhelming numbers and resources, fought until exhausted.

That right there is full throated support for Civil War revisionism, posing the confederacy as rebelling against tyranny and not saying one thing about the real reason for the sectional split that caused the war.

That is right there on the lawn of the state capitol in Austin. Austin is a deep blue city. Activists have been trying to get it taken down for decades. I think it's time. They could at least change the plaque and inscription to something more reasonable.

And then you look up whe it I was put in place.

The monument was erected in 1903, as part of an effort to "romanticize the motivations that drew Texas into the [U.S.] Civil War.

These are all horible. I say give these all to trump and he can maintain and display them on his properties.

I visited the TX capitol for a photo walk right around the time statues were being pulled down all over the US. I was surprised the had the statue to begin with, and that it was still standing (Austin being very liberal).
I remember trying to take a photo that juxtaposed that statue with something in the vicinity that stood in stark contrast.

Why don't we remove ALL statues to ensure that no one is offended? And let's rename ALL schools, streets, etc. from a human's name to something generic? Anything else we can think of to appease ALL peoples feelings?

Why were they put up in the first place, other than to appease the feelings of people who happened to have power at that time? Why should their feelings be appeased by not pulling them down?

Stanley was a total bastard. There were arguments about this when that statue went up - some suggested the plinth should be inscribed with "the horror, the horror!".

On the inside of the capitol building, they also had a "Children of the Confederacy" plaque. Get this: it was on a wall right outside the office of an African American state rep. At the request of him and several others, they finally removed it in 2018.

Bye bye mt Rushmore. Don't forget the Lincoln memorial and Jefferson memorial.

Yeah, Dave; we heard you the first time, but thanks for providing another shit & run post, rather than any logical argument.

It does make it clear that he isn't exclusively talking about American monuments and statues in case anyone was still confused about the mea ing of "every."

Oh you know what, now I remember (also thanks to a quick Google). There is an African American history monument also on the Capitol grounds, not very far away from the Confederate solider one.

Yes, I mentioned that when I posted about the confederacy monument months ago. It's about 50 feet away from it. They did a beautiful job with it.

I read that GWB of all people, while he was governor, pushed that through. At the time, people were protesting the confederacy monument, wanting to take it down. He didn't want to offend his base by removing it, so he did that instead. These days, that sort of compromise is about as good as it ever gets for republicans.

The confederacy monument is just to the right of it, across that paved walkway.

I musta missed something. When did Dave swing into right-wing land? Was it the conspiracy theories that led him there?

This is as poor an argument as any from him.

Because Germany took down all Hitler and Nazi monuments, they must remove all monuments?

Huh?

Maybe we need to flip the script/narrative on removing statues.

”Won’t somebody think of the southerners? These poor people have to be subjugated daily to the fact they lost the war and have it rubbed in their faces that their dear leaders failed to preserve slavery for their racist bigoted asses. Poor southerners”

Ha, I like that. Now that I think about it i have never heard a valid augment for not removing offensive Statues.

He always had a tenuous grip on reality, even when he was on the left. As to the transition, I have no idea. The drunken posting theory has as much credibility as any.

I live by a couple of towns that must be renamed as well. Whitestown and yes it has a history of burning crosses etc to drive african americans out. Also the town of Whiteland. Every misnamed town and city must be re-named politically corrected.

Wonder what gas costs in his world.

Willfully ignorant place, totally not racist place, or animals are for loving place would all work and be accurate descriptors as well.
