All is right once again in the world. The Yankees win the division.

What a great season it has been. To think of how rocky it began (ie losing 8 straight to the Sox, etc) and how it finished is just amazing.

This year I got to watch a lot more games then usual as I stayed home 3 weeks after the birth of my son. That was right when they played the Braves down in ATL and everything was not looking good.....its when they turned the season around.

Lots of really good moments in the season too - Jeter passing Lou in hits, Mo's 500, all the walk of hits/homers, Phil being the man in the pen. Heres to the postseason!

Don't give me that crap. The Jays "bought" players too back in the 90's when they were winning championships. Joe Carter, Robbie Alomar, Paul Molitor, etc etc. From what I can remember there were only 1 or 2 guys brought up from their farm system on those teams (Olerud).

Honestly if you guys actually went out and supported your team it would be different. Have you looked at how many people attend Yankee games? They average over 50,000 people per game and have the best home and ROAD attendance in the MLB.

Also, its like the Jay's management doesn't even care about the team any more. The Skydome used to be a jewel of a stadium. Now its a dump. There are banners of players plastered around the stadium that aren't even on the team anymore (Ryan, Rios). These are full sized like 30 foot posters - ya think after they were traded/released someone would take em down??

It also doesn't help that they spent a fortune on players like Rios and Wells and they have underperformed.

Edit: Just did a check and the Yanks are not #1 in home and road....they are #2. They also have been averaging 46,000 people per home game not 50,000. From 2005-2008 they had over 4,000,000 fans attend games while this year they are slightly down to 3,600,000 I guess you can figure that because of the new stadium's ticket prices, the economy and the fact they have 4 more home games left.

All that minor league talent that the Yankees have developed over the years into big league stars has really worked out for them....oh wait.

um youre joking right?

Jeter
Rivera
Posada
Cabrera
Cano
Hughes
Chamberlain
Pettite

Last time I checked most of those guys were part of the 4 championships with at least 2 of them being sure fire hall of famers.

edit: and I'm not even counting Bernie Williams who was one of the best post season players ever

edit 2: also forgot about Soriano

Cano, Cabrera, Jeter, Pettite, Posada, Chamberlain (iffy sometimes)...

All of those guys were on the teams of the past few years who haven't done anything. They then go out and spend hundreds of millions to let money solve all their problems and walaaa....they win the division! Amazing. I'm sure without CC, Tex, and Burnett they would have the same record they do now, or better!

Backtracking on that previous statement? How convenient of you.

burnett sucked.
tex was the best pickup in the past decade.

While Tex has been a great all around player (I'd argue his defense at 1st is more crucial to us than his bat), Sabathia has just been nuts since the All-Star break.

Jeter, Pettite, and Posada are all +++ players. So is Cano when he wants to be.

Cabrera is nothing more than a league-average player who benefits from being in a great lineup. Yes, he's not bad. He's also not that good.

Chamberlain. I don't even really know what to say about him. He should be phenomenal, but he has regressed hard this season and it makes me wonder whether he's really better suited to the bullpen long-term. The Yankees owe it to him to see if this season was a fluke, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Chamberlain back as the 8th inning guy.

can someone explain chamberlain's pitch count? like, why is he on one? he's supposed to be a starter, isn't he?

A lot of analysis has been done on pitchers over the last decade and they've found that dramatic increases in IP or in pitch count amplifies the chances for injury. I believe that the general rule of thumb is that somewhere around a 20% workload increase in IP per year is optimal.

Chamberlain's effectiveness has declined throughout the season and I believe the Yankees are limiting his pitch count in games to try and hedge against him developing a tired arm and to, hopefully, improve his effectiveness.

Sure your all high and mighty now, but just wait until the Tigers knock them out of the playoffs again*

*this post is contingent on the Tigers making the playoffs. Go Tigers!

The game on Saturday was pretty good. There were quite a few good plays on each side and I was wondering when someone would finally score. The guy that got the home run (I seriously thought that was going foul) must've felt quite good 😛.

Best part about playoff season is watching the Yankees lose. You'd think the team with the highest payroll in the league would win the division every year.

Hoping the Sox get the wild card again, and put those overpaid cocksuckers in their place once more.

You'd think that'd be true but for the top 10 payrolls only 6 will make the playoffs (5 if the tigers lose).

If you go further....out of the top 15 only 7 will make the playoffs (6 if the tigers lose).

Actually the team with the highest payroll in their division actually doesn't win the division, more often than not. I saw the stat a couple of months back. It's like only 30 percent of the time.

Even the differences between salaries by percentage only show a slightly better skew towards winning, though there is a point at which below a percentage of the average your chances go way, way down.
