All craft beer bars should have Bud Light on the menu.

I don't actually mind the odd bottle of over hopped beer it's just a shame that that's what people assume an IPA should be.

They don't all (and shouldn't traditionally) be like that. I'm not convinced that modern American style IPA should really be called an IPA. It's nothing like the IPA I've been drinking for decades. That's not to crap on it, it's a valid type of beer it's just very, very different to a traditional IPA.

I'm sure they aren't, I was just curious about all the American IPA thing, and it is a bit out there.

I'll have to try some others sometime.

I even have a very long interesting story about last Saturday nite and everything that ensued, but I won't put a wall of a post up he he.

I decided to venture out on my own while my wife was in NY still right before she flew home and things got very odd.

Was an adventure in idiocy on a few places that I might revisit yet to ask some questions with a lawyer 😛

10.5 ABV and 100 IBU

Amazing beer! Had to remind myself its okay to be pretty buzzed after a four pack first time I got them.

As far as the rest of the thread, all the American/double/imperial IPA hate is silly. Some people just really like the flavors of hops and want it strong. I don't go and piss in someones cheerios when they drink some insane stout. I do agree there aren't enough options outside hoppy stuff, would love to see more ambers and browns. Independence makes two great ones, Austin Amber and Bootlegger, don't know how far outside of central Texas they'd be available though.

I don't hate it, it's just a shame that the over hopping of IPAs seems to be turning into more of a "can we do this" rather than "should we do this" sort of thing. It's a bit like the stupider end of the chilli sauce scale. Yes you can make a chilli sauce hotter than police pepper spray, should you? Well that's a different issue.

Chucking a load of hops in a beer kills all the other flavours in there and you end up with a really one dimensional beer rather than a drink made up of many complex flavours.

Sometimes they do sometimes they don't. Don't see why that makes being a wine snob superior to being a beer snob though.

Some beers need to be aged for longer than some wines.

Not talking about snobs.

Good wines and spirits have a reason for it.

Beer is just beer no matter how much hops, lemon, lime, nutsack, etc you add to it.

I like craft beers, but the snobbery is getting too much for me...sort of like a parade of self-important hipsters.

I get it, your beer is strong and full bodied, and most likely a IPA.

Congratulations on your strong piss beer.

Microbrews were much more enjoyable before there were hipsters.

I saw your post, saw the beer was < 20 ibu (where I like it to be), located a store near me that carried it, bought it, and took it with to a friend's place today to share. Amazing taste! I'll remember this one to buy on a semi-regular basis. There are but a few beers outside of hefeweizens & white ales I enjoy, this certainly is one!

I've had a couple friends try to get me into brown ales by having me try Newcastle, never cared for it to buy it. But this stuff is fantastic.

 Glad you liked it. I had it for the first time at (of all places) a movie theater. One of those places where there are waiters that bring you food before and during the movie. Best thing about that experience was the beer, fortunately or unfortunately.

Since you are up for trying new beers and you seem to like things on the malty side, try Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout when you get a chance. It is more expensive than Ellie's, but it is worth it IMO.

IMO it is so good that it is almost equates to dessert in a glass. Had one tonight (at British Beer Company) and I am yearning for another.

Couldn't agree more.

Yeah, it's an aftershock of Craft Beer transitioning out of the fringe/hipster arena. The original hipsters who first drank the stuff are pissed at all the "wannabes" trying to to get into it, and a lot of those wannabes just getting into it think it makes them look hipster and stupidly try to show off.

For my part, I just like good beer.

Hipster obviously invented Pabst.

No, but the hipsters adopted it shortly after craft beer started becoming mainstream. 😛 They used to stand for rare, craft beer eschewing the traditional mega-breweries, now they've adopted the cheap PBR because they feel it represents the working man or some shit. Hipsters have a compulsive need to believe they're on the bleeding edge despite non-hipsters just pointing and laughing or not giving shit most of the time.

I must snicker 🙂

I've always hated the term "Well Played" but that really does nail it.

Probably the only time I've typed it, Kudos to whoever put that on the menu.

And I'm usually a Miller Lite drinker, but if I do do out I like hitting the Dunedin Brewery to listen to a band and have a Nitro Stout or two or 6, or who knows.

Just in general I hate Buttwipers, at least get a Yuenglin or agree even on a PBR or a Rolling Rock.

Bud is just blech, Blatz or Olympia might be worse.

Moving to the Tampa/Clearwater area in a few weeks if a job pans out. I can't wait to try that place out.

The best part is PBR sells for the same price as craft beers in hipster bars anyway.

Its sad, I used to love PBR as a cheap solid beer. Now the prices are up and people give me looks when I drink it.
