pretty good collection of articles as for the Apple specific information I cannot speak on it.
However, I have an older MSI laptop with a i6700h CPU and 960m GPU and I had to use is as a back up after it had been in storage for about a year under not ideally stable temperatures.
The laptop didn't start charging the battery until after being plugged in for a total of about 3 or 4 hours intermittently on AC power in different locations. At first I thought the battery was totally dead. but then it eventually started charging again and being several years into a lifecycle it didn't charge fully but didn't seem overly worn given the amount of time it was in storage.
Also common advice I have seen among enough articles on the care of lithium batteries is to discharge them to about 50% capacity if you are going to leave the device unused for some time and to not habitually charge them to 100% all the time unless you need the capacity for an all day session away from way to charge your device.
device specific software fairly common to limit the charge to about 20 to 40% less than 100% capacity since holding the battery at near 100% while the device is plugged in (for example charging a phone overnight or having a gaming laptop plugged in all the time since it's on the heavier side of portable plus performance considerations) does indeed reduce wear and tear battery lifespan.
In particular recent Samsung phones stop charging (supplying current to the battery at either 80% or 100% depening on the option chosen) when Battery Protection is turned on in setting or via a quick toggle in the notification pane.
And Asus laptops have software to limit the battery charge to 60% or 80%
if anyone has an Asus Laptop look into the G-helper software on github it is a lighter less cpu resource intensitve substitute for the MyAsus / Armory Crate software that controls various battery and performance features that ASUS adds to various laptop model series.
You might end up preferring it to the official manufacturer software. It is updated on a fairly frequent schedule so far still.
