I use my tech forever, so I'm still reasonably happy with my 2017 Kaby Lake XPS 15. But it'll be nice to see QCOM release future generations of the Snapdragon X Elite. More choices for consumers is almost always a good thing.Suckers don't buy from suckers like me
They were offering $500 before but I didn't know at the time how to revive my seemingly "dead" MBA since I misplaced its original charger.
It's not a total loss though, since the money for it came from the sale of two Geforces which were themselves bought with lottery money
But I could've been working with a Snapdragon Elite X 78 CPU right now with 32GB RAM in WINDOWS, instead of the illogical MacOS, had I traded in the MBA at the right time. It's truly grating on the nerves having to do things completely differently. Even Linux doesn't give me fits like MacOS does.
I daily drove MacOS X from ~ 2005 to 2017, and I'm still fond of the UX. It was Apple's shitty business practices that steered me back to Linux. If I had bought a new MBP in 2017, it probably loses support next year and I would have never been able to easily upgrade the RAM or storage. I'm also okay with the future having soldered RAM as long as that is 32GB (or more) at an affordable price point. Most likely I will still want replaceable M.2 storage and battery vs. Apple's disposable devices. 🤮
I haven't used Windows extensively in two decades, so it's still my third choice for a desktop OS.
Your story actually reminded me that about 10 years ago, I also had an insane trade-in value for my old MBP. Like hundreds of USD more than it was worth, because it was already obsolete. IIRC I thought about it, but at the time I didn't want to spend any money on a replacement laptop.
