Apparently this is their new top of the line, give us all your money suckers, model.

It features
  • Alienware ALX systems feature performance-enhanced hardware to provide more speed, power, and responsiveness than ever before. High-performance hardware is carefully engineered and configured to define and deliver a brand new class of high-performance systems. Pushed beyond all previous performance thresholds, ALX systems satisfy even the most extreme need for speed.

Wow, they're engineering their own hardware now!

  • Alienware?s liquid cooling technology was specifically designed for ALX systems. An evolution beyond standard air-cooled designs, it uses a specially formulated liquid and gold-plated, pure copper coolers to keep the heat generated by internal hardware components in check. Excess heat is absorbed by the liquid, which is moved away through two pumps and cooled by a high-performance heat exchanger.

Oooh, high performance heat exchanger. Would that be a radiator? Do you suppose their specially formulated liqud is water?

  • Alienware ALX systems include numerous exclusive details designed to enhance your ALX experience. As an ALX customer, you can send in three of your favorite games, or purchase them from Alienware, and your ALX technician will install, update, and optimize them, free of charge. You?ll also receive exclusive access to Alienware?s game servers, which allow you to play the latest games against Alienware employees and other ALX customers in a completely private environment. In addition, ALX systems feature chrome-plated accents and offer the most unique out-of-box experience in the industry by including an aluminum briefcase filled with unique ALX accessories like a key chain, executive notepad, personalized ID card, and other surprises.

Wow, someone to install games for you. Bud what do you do when you get new games? Service call? And private servers, to insure you're only playing with other people who gave Alienware $6000 for a personal computer. Ooh, and a briefcase full of goodies, and suprises! I wonder if my dog that ran away when I was 6 is in there?

  • ALX customers will receive one-on-one attention from Alienware?s highly-trained team of dedicated PC enthusiasts, who will help them with everything from deciding what components will perform best to recommending what settings their software should run on. ALX systems are backed by Alienware?s award-winning AlienCare Service Program, which includes 1-3 year warranty plans with toll-free 24/7 tech support and competitive discounts on system upgrades.

So you still get the infamous AlienCare "service" huh? I'd think they'd give ay least some sort of system by another name, just to make you feel special.... By the way, since when has Alienware been "competitive" ?

Its cool if you got mega bucks in the bank.

I once got a Falcon NW system.

However I know a LOT more about tuning the OS and BIOS now than I did then, which was pretty much none.

Amazing what a year and a half of research can do.

I don't think anyone serious into computing on this board would buy a system like this.

Anyone here can pretty much build something similar for half the cost. Whatever performance difference remains, I don't think its worth the rest of the cost for the system.

Edit: In fact for less you can get into phase change and blow this computer out of the water.

That is overkill imo. Besides, the hardware will be out of date in a while like any other computer. Why blow your money away like that. You can make like 3 awesome pc custom built with that money. It's too much. D:

Yeah prices from some of these companies are ridiculous. But hey, if you're some rich ass beverly hills kid who knows nothing about computers except that he wants the fastest one, there you go. Heck I'd buy one if I was rich....and use it as a firewall LOL. Building is awesome though. I build any day over buying complete systems :).

While this system itself is really overpriced technically, depending on if you will be forced to upgrade again or not, you may be better off with the highest end system you can lay your fingers on.

I did the math the other day and in my own case I would end up buying the core parts of the PC again in another 12 months (still low level stuff and only the 2nd best video card thats out today) and it added up to within $300 of the high end system thats in my sig that I'm planing to build completely from scratch that would have the best of everything and it would last a lot longer (4 CPU's above the one I would have gotten a year from now).

It doesn't happen very often but right now the CPU performance curve is at an all time low. Back in the socket A days of AMD this wasn't true and it was always worth more to buy 2-3 CPUs down from the top.

Not today. It will likely change again once K9 comes out but I'm planing to add another year of life to my system on top of the two years its gona last by adding phase change for $1000 (Canadian).

For me the Math works out perfectly, however this isn't true for someone who isn't looking to get the kind of performance I need in highly demanding games or games that will scale over time such as WoW.

Over the course of 3 years I would actually end up saving money. I don't think I'll get another chance at this again and I don't think it would ever work out this way ever again.

Wow, after configuring the computer with a monitor (20" LCD) it came out to $6700. That 30" LCD is extremely tempting.

BTW, you'd be an idiot to buy this computer. $48 for a power cable? $21 for a cat5 cable? $156 difference between the Audigy 2 ZS and the ZS Platinum Pro?

If you go to customize a system, you see that they have the balls to charge $48 for a power cable. Yes, the thing that plugs into the wall outlet. They also use PC4400 RAM in an Athlon FX system, complete overkill and useless.

But look! It's "99.9% Pure Stranded Copper" and it has a "mesh overcoat"! Really, how can you NOT want one! :p

I might pay $48 for a 99.9% pure stranded gold power cable :p

I though these things were supposed to come with 2 video cards. It looks like it only has one to me. Sucks that all the X800 XT's and 6800 Ultra's appear to be going to the rich...

The majority of people who use computers don't know how to build them. So there's plenty of people willing to buy these..

Not the rich, just the stupid. You can get one of those cards if you know where to look.

On a minor note: These ALX's aren't the SLI versions; those will be called the ALX "X2." Also, the reason for the PC4400 memory is because this things ship overclocked; this is their so-called "performance enhanced hardware."

PS No comment on the price, but considering both the hardware going in to it, the support, and the fact that they sell a small number of systems at a high profit, are you really so surprised?

Yep, for that kind of money, you could definitely build a killer Opteron dually.

Great system. I have stayed away from anything built by a company since my compaq days though. What fun that was. Out of date out of the box awsomeness. I would say its money well spent if you didn't know to much about computer hardware. Alienware has a pretty good trade in/upgrade program to so that thing should keep you going for awhile too.
