"After reading all that has been written, and after thinking all that can be thought on the topics of God and the soul, the man who has a right to say that he thinks at all, will find himself face to face with the conclusion that, on these topics, the most profound thought is that which can be the least easily distinguished from the most superficial sentiment."

I'm almost done watching Ancient Aliens...and I got to say, it's extremely convincing.

*The rocks weigh 1,000's of tons
*Human's can't lift rocks
*Ancient humans didn't have machines to move rocks that big
*Therefore Aliens may have existed

That's pretty much the theme of everything :\

/sarcasm

But some things I find really interesting...is the architecture of those old buildings. This series really kind of delves into it and it's wonderful to see :awe:

I would love to see the pyramids at Giza...but I feel like it is one of those things you see and you are like "Oh, they looked more grand on TV"

Anyone been there?

Yes, watching the series myself....the cutting of the stone is amazing, and I truly say BS to anyone who thinks they were all done by hand!...You cant pass ciggy paper between them!
I thought the big wheel idea had some merit.....Anyway, if the stone age man wasnt drawing pictures in caves of Aliens, WTF were they drawing?

I really hope you're being sarcastic. I really do. I hope no one is truly this dumb.

But if they are:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9w-i5oZqaQ

That video alone is over 3 hours, and thoroughly debunks 15 of the episodes.

Just watch it. And visit:

Virtually every single statement made by the Anicent Aliens morons can and has been thoroughly debunked by archaeologists, scientists, and people marginally educated science and history.

I thought the pyramids were built by flooding a canal with water to send the stones from the quarry to the preparation area. And then they were sent up through a duct that kept being built up the pyramid. Stones were floated up and positioned before removing the logs.

I think most of the things the "it was aliens" community are in support of, can be done with a bit of genius, and a shit ton of spare time.

Look how much the mayans/aztecs knew about the stars and planets. All that with out any fancy computers, telescopes or other tech.

However they did it, the pace at which it was done is nothing short of impressive IMO. Some historian from the time claimed that the Giza pyramid was constructed in 20 years. This is from the wikipedia page:

"Based on these estimates, building this in 20 years would involve installing approximately 800 tonnes of stone every day. Similarly, since it consists of an estimated 2.3 million blocks, completing the building in 20 years would involve moving an average of more than 12 of the blocks into place each hour, day and night."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pyramid_of_Giza

I don't know how that compares to modern day construction. but it sounds like a veritable breakneck pace for the time.

You'd be amazed at the technology humans came up with even 10000 years ago. Leverage and certain aspects of physics and mechanics were well employed by ancient peoples.

I Agree! The Ancient civilizations came with inventions that you wouldn't believe..

The Puma Punku segment he opens with, brings the lulz. I will watch the rest later.

Our favorite alien meme guy asserts they could not build it because they had no written language. Our Narrator, yes he sciences, bros. Explains they used pictorials. It made me laugh because when I saw that episode I quipped that I built most my kitchen stuff from Ikea using pictorial guides. :p

This is probably the most convincing argument to me, and not the structures. Aliens could have been the "Gods" these ancient civilizations kept drawing.

I also find the idea of humans being genetically engineered pretty fascinating. There are a lot of different kinds of primates, yet we humans are completely standout from the entire group. Which also then adds to question of, why did we evolve in the first place if it was never really required by survival of the fittest? And because we did, why are the "inferior" versions of us still around? But maybe that's just the nature of the evolution of intelligence? Because we now pretty much control how we evolve (if we survive long enough).

Having an inquisitive mind is a good thing. If you really want answers though, they are usually available, so you can read about it.

E.G. The reason we "stand out" from other primates is primarily human chromosome 2

The rocks do not weight 1000s of tons. Not even close. Some of them weigh only a ton or two. The largest being around 80 tons. This is easily movable with hundreds or thousands of people, with enough leverage and enough time.

Everything on the History Channel should be taken with a grain....I mean, a bottle of salt.

Thanks for the link, started watching and if you listen carefully, the narrator does state he cant debunk alien visitors, just that they can prove other ideas....
And seriously, I do hope thats not a line you use at parties, Not everyone will ever agree with you, I hope you learn to deal with it better than that.

I read Chariots of the Gods years ago and while I dont agree with everything Eric VD says, there is a lot that makes sense to me.
Im havent seen the Pumapuka episode yet, and for sure the Anicent Alien guys are milking and fabricating some stuff, there is no way that slaves sanded the rock (not sandstone) of the pyramids to get them flat and fitting exactly right. No matter how many slaves there were, I cant see it for any of the stone masonry stuff, moving it, maybe.

This to me makes more sense than a omni-present God looking down on us that religion would have us believe.

And more importantly they had a nearly endless supply of expendable slaves. A little understanding of leverage and a lot of sweat can get things done.

it looks like they were contractors and a paid workforce. not slaves.

I wonder how much of a a difference there was, practically? The economics of the those times were terribly top-heavy, and a lot of people probably had no choice but to do heavy manual labor for very low wages, and perhaps even for just subsistence.

Are Christians, Muslims, Jews, worshipping god, with a little g?

If so, that is one cruel joke perpetrated upon the masses.

well, there probably wasn't medicare or anything like that :D, but the dig sites at Valley of the Kings uncovered what is, essentially, a thriving city of a permanent labor force--houses for the architects, builders, labor force, and whatever services you would expect.

It's not like they would be doing anything else, anyway. Well, just assuming, here. Not easy to make assumptions looking back with present day knowledge of life 3k years ago.

true but there were some fairly big cities back then. so lots of work for craftsmen, bronzesmiths, millers, architects, carpenters, tailors, shoers, wheel repairer, jewelers and such
