Alcohol detectors in cars to be standard in CA?

I've used this exact argument in debates against gun registration and licensing. And now California is trying to make it a reality. Go figure.

I'm not actually sure which side you're taking on the gun registration debate here. But in that situation I'm all for treating gun registration and licensing exactly like car. License the gun owner and they have to get renewed every so often similar to cars. Make individual funs be registered just like a car. A car used properly will never kill anyone. A gun used properly will always kill something.

But, that's off topic so let's move on.

I think it's a great idea. The government should also install video cameras in everyone's home, to make sure no kids or women are abused. It's all in the name of safety. Think of the children! While we're at it, we should also add a monitor so that our esteemed government officials can wake us up and make sure we complete at least 15 minutes of exercise every morning. Think of how many lives can be saved just by having a healthier population. It's all for the greater good.

You could argue that making driver's license's mandatory assumes that people are stupid and lazy. Why not just wait until someone breaks the law or causes an accident to see if they know how to drive? Because the ugly truth is people often are stupid and lazy!

While you can't protect people from themselves all the time and it's debatable whether you should even try you would have to be even more stupid and lazy to allow stupid and lazy people to have every opportunity in the world to kill you.

I wonder what kind of germs will build up in those things. Especially with multiple drivers, valet parking, car wash, mechanics, etc. all having to breathe in to that tube...

Your right to a trial has nothing to do with automobile regulation. Similarly, the government can require you to wear a seat belt in a car without putting you on trial.

What I'm alluding it is the previously quoted poster saying he's glad he doesn't live in California. If California mandates it, you can bet in a few years time it will become "standard" on all cars sold in the US, whether the state you live in requires it or not.

Not true. If you look up numerous models in parts catalogs there are CA versions, and federal versions, mostly emissions related.
