Control was released on GOG eventually and this will likely end up on GOG also, so I'm gonna wait.
- Don't hold your breath, this game was 100% financed by Epic, just like the Alan Wake 1 Remaster, which never left EGS either.
Its a shame, I'm actually playing through OG AW1 right now (since I'm too much of a wuss to play Alien Isolation in long sessions) and its a really fun game from a narrative, presentation (love the idea of "episodes"), and how it straddles weird/quirky/scary in equal measure. Is it some amazing gaming accomplishment? No. Is it fun and have a sense of style and presence? Hell yes.
I'll definitely be looking into picking up both Control and Quantum Break from Remedy here soon.
However as far as AW2, its got a couple things really going against it: super heavy system requirements for an upscaled experience, EGS exclusivity (nothing against the exclusivity in this case since Epic financed the production of the game, just done with the n+1 launcher situation and consolidating everything to Steam), and honestly I don't ever buy anything brand new anymore after the crapshow that was Mass Effect 3.
But then again, I never thought in a million years we were going to get a Diablo game on Steam, so maybe its just a question of herculean patience on my part, and AW2 will come to where I buy games by the time I have a computer than can actually properly play it.
Is the reason Diablo 4 is on Steam because Microsoft owns Blizzard now? I was thinking about picking up the game but the micro transactions and the bad reviews on Steam are an issue for me.
I also agree wwith you on downloading a bunch of launchers just so I can buy one or two games from Epic, or even GoG. In fact, I bought Sacrifice on GoG a while back. Haven't downloaded GoG since I bought my new gaming laptop. If I decide to play Sacrifice again I might just purchase it from Steam. The game is only $10 now. I like to keep things simplistic. One game launcher, and one store to purchase my games. But, if Alan Wake 2 doesn't come to Steam I may have to rethink that idea.
Am I looking at it wrong or do you have more patience than me? For example Witcher 3 offline installer is 21 seperate downloads + 8 seperate patch downloads. They can't just give you 1 link? You don't need a launcher for GoG games. I'm exclusively with GoG, and I never downloaded, or used their launcher platform (Galaxy). It's completely optional.
I just download the offline installers, and use shortcuts to launch games directly.

The original Alan Wake was pretty good, though a bit overrated imo. Played it about 3 years ago, so it felt a bit dated.Started this morning, just got to the end of chapter 1 — perfect Halloween game. I love Remedy’s brand of bizarre. Pretty punishing though, getting 30 fps in the forest and 50-60 in town with mostly medium settings, low RT, 4k output with 1080p DLSS rendering on my 3080.

Planning to upgrade my 2060, looking at a 4070 (limited to Nvidia due to a gsync only monitor), hopefully there will be a decent deal for black friday. Definitely waiting on this until I get something new.
Yah, but the 40 series is overpriced already, so not much of a bonus. 🙂AW2 is a bonus with NVidia 4070 and above cards right now.

Will I be able to play this on my RX6600 + Ryzen 5600X at 1080p
I would recommend playing Control before AW2 based on what I’ve seen so far. The universe tie ins are worth understanding and Control is a fantastic game on its own. It’s playable on your 2060, think I played on a 1070 before upgrading. The original Alan Wake was pretty good, though a bit overrated imo. Played it about 3 years ago, so it felt a bit dated.

Sort of cheesing me off the AW1 boards on Steam are infested with AW2 players and it's tough finding actual AW1 topics on there now.
It is inevitable and happens with other games. When Subnautica was free on Epic, people were asking for help getting it to run on the Steam forums. It is there or reddit and other gaming forums because Epic has no real customer service forum or fellow customers help each other forum.
The settings menu of Alan Wake 2 has a long list of options for performance tuning, but there will be a ton of drama around the forced upscaling. Yup, you can't render at native. There's only options for "DLSS" and "FSR"—nothing else. Both upscalers come with the option to render at native resolution, but will still use the image enhancement techniques of the upscaler. Not sure why Remedy made such a choice—it will just antagonize players. What makes things worse is that the sharpening filter that's part of both upscalers is disabled, but can be enabled manually with a config file edit. Still, we want native, just as an option, even if it comes with a performance hit. The good thing is that you can enable this in settings manually, by changing m_eSSAAMethod to 0 or 1. During gaming, even with DLAA enabled, and Motion Blur and Film Grain disabled, I noticed that at sub-4K resolutions the game looks quite blurry, like there was a hidden upscaler at work. I played with all the settings options—no improvement. After digging through the config file I noticed that there's several important settings that aren't exposed in the settings menu, no idea why. Once I set m_bVignette, m_bDepthOfField and m_bLensDistortion to "false," the game suddenly looked much clearer. If you plan on playing Alan Wake 2 definitely make those INI tweaks manually. You can also change the field of view here (m_fFieldOfViewMultiplier). I found the default too narrow and prefer to play with a setting of 1.3.
I plan on getting to this one at some point. Forced myself to play the original years ago when I was younger and just didn't get into the whole plot. I'm hearing this one is much better told and put together.
But I also hear a lot of the good reviews are from folks that were die hard fans of the original.
