There are a lot of games in this world that are 8/10 at $5 and 4/10 at full price.

I suspect AW2 is one of those games based on my experience with AW1 (a 10/10 $5 and 6/10 $60 game).

Patient game this son-of-a-gun

Given the reviews, it's one of the few games this year that's worth it's full price. It's considered MUCH better than AW1.

But naturally you are free to wait for any/all games to be reduced in price. I haven't paid full price for a game in 10+ years.

I am getting really bad shimmering with DLSS in this game. Anyone else have this issue?

I watched a few hours of a let's play and it's one of the most boring games I've ever seen.
I am 17+ hours in to actually playing the game and really enjoying it. Gives me some really weird and cool dreams. The game is not that scary for the most part, and doesn’t take itself as seriously as it seems to, but one part at about 15 hours in on Saga’s side was especially terrifying. Love the old gods of Asgard scene too as usual, I remember it being awesome in Control as well .. but I am into both 80s and modern Scandinavian rock and metal already.

I did end up grabbing a 4090 FE a few days ago and though it’s hard to tell the quality difference with ray tracing on and maxed out in stills, it makes the dynamic behavior of light while moving around the world that much more immersive.

I wonder if I should re-play Alan Wake 1 before getting into AW 2?

I played the first game after release so it's been a really long time and I have mostly forgotten the story.

Remember TECHNICALLY this is Alan Wake THREE IRL so to really catch up you'll have to play TWO games. ;)

*(#2 was American Nightmare and billed as an "expansion" despite being pretty big)

Having said that, I forgot plenty of story details myself!

-Havent played either AWAN or AW2 it but everything I've read basically says Remedy basically threw away American Nightmare.

Wow .... I recall it being fun but I can't remember a single detail of that game so not shocking. (still have it on STEAM but not installed)

Waited until there was a decent enough sale before purchasing. As is usual for me with any game. EGS has it on sale for $40 and I believe everyone got the 33% off coupon that also works with this purchase. Another enticing part of the purchase was also getting Alan Wake Remastered for free with it. Both are only available on EGS. Total came to $26.79 for both games.

Tried to get the deluxe version. EGS's PP payment process is broken. Card got charged but the payment didn't go through to EGS. Now gotta wait a few days for Paypal to return the unclaimed funds.

From TechPowerUp. May be helpful.

Yup, you can't render at native. There's only options for "DLSS" and "FSR"—nothing else

You can allegedly get it to render native with an ini file tweak (I have no idea if it's true, I don't have the game). The strangest part of this design choice though IMO is that in say ten years' time, presumably graphics cards will be able to handle this game's workload at native with ease, yet gamers would still in theory have to render with upscaling tech?

Finally built a nice pc gaming rig for the first time in some years. Downloading Alan Wake 2, 97GB? Hot damn. It sounds like one of the cooler games out, visually stunning, and runs eye candy well on geforce cards. Anybody try the new DLC?

There have definitely been some holy fuck moments in the game so far visually speaking. They are very nice overall, but then there are moments when my mind just goes, well holy fuck will you look at that, and then have to remind myself this is a video game. Keep in mind I have not played any top tier graphics PC games in some years, so I have little baseline to other recent competitors.

Just started last night, turned off all the lights, it was so immersive. I haven't gotten to any really scary parts yet. It's gonna get intense because I'm not a horror movie guy. But I like shooting things and solving puzzles so there you go. Hope it's good!
