Yesterday I received my Akasa Eclipse case from Overcool.com. It came in perfect condition double boxed like someone else mentioned.
Overall I am thrilled with the case, but I did find some minor issues with the build construction.
I was going from a Lian Li PC60 which was in my opinion perfectly constructed. It had only one sharp edge which was covered with a little plastic wrap, and the rest of the edges were rounded. It felt very solid and was pretty flexible. They used thumbscrews for pretty much everything.
So that was what I was coming from.
At first glance I loved the simple yet sharp look of the Akasa, which is one of the reasons why I bought it. I didn't want any fancy 'bling bling' cases, just something that worked. Another reason I upgraded was because I wanted a case with 120MM fan mounts. I also went ahead and picked up 2 Scythe 1600rpm 120mm fans.
Once I opened up the case I got pretty much what I expected from the reviews. My main issue like I said before is the actual build quality. It does not seem to be as high of quality as a Lian Li, lots of rough/sharp edges on the case, even one that was sharp enough to cause a slight cut on my finger.
The other problem (but one I can easily solve) is the fact that they don't use thumbscrews for everything Not to mention with the thumbscrews either they don't line up too great or the actual screws ribbings aren't too good, but they can be extremely tough or even impossible to tighten or unscrew by hand. You can do it, but most would only go half way until I used a screw driver to finish it. That pretty much defeats the purpose of thumb screws. I believe the problem is with the screws used and not the case it self. I will pick up some more thumb screws and try them out.
Those are pretty much my only complaints with the case. Everything else is great. The removable motherboard tray is convenient and works fine. I love all of the little details they added for cable management. I spent about an hour hiding wires and what not, and it turned out great in the end. One complaint most reviews talk about is the fact that the front bezel isn't aluminum, which I was disappointed about until I saw it in person. The plastic bezel in my opinion looks great and seems to be of high quality. I also like the fact that it is a little bit wider than most cases, it just feels a bit roomier without being some sort of monster full tower case.
One thing I was thrilled about was how fantastic this thing cools. I have an Opteron 165 @ 2.5ghz w/ Freezer64 hsf, an ATI X1900XTX w/ Acellero X2 hsf, an Enhance 600w modular PSU, a couple SATA HDD's, and a DVDRW drive. Just reading the onboard motherboard temp at load, it is about 15 degrees celcius cooler than my Lian Li. It does run slightly louder because of the two Scythe 120mm fans, but it is not quite as high pitched as the 80mm fans were. I actually find that even though it is a little bit louder, since it isn't as high pitched it is much more tolerable.
So overall I definitely can recommend this case to anyone looking for a sub $150 case that is simple yet stylish and has some nice cable management features and great cooling. I bet some of the $200+ Lian Li cases are better, but at those prices they are pretty much in another league.
edit: Oh yeah, I love the fact that they included some casters. It's great being able to wheel it around when working in the case. Not to mention it keeps my case from resting directly on the carpet.
