Air conditioned car seats - do they exist/actually work?

They're pretty awesome. The rental company I used to work for had a few Lincolns with them. They work like an air hockey table. An air duct runs into the seat and vents through small holes in the leather, gently chilling your ass.

Ford uses the same technology for heated seats, which sucks in the winter as you don't get any warmth until the engine heats up.

thats stupid, why not use electric.

Yes, they're real and they're spectacular!

My truck has them, and I used them on a road trip to Phoenix last weekend... worked almost too well, had to stand in the sun at a gas station to warm up.

I think it's hit or miss if you actually need them. When your car gets cooled down using the normal AC, the seats typically become room temp....which is 72 or whatever you set the AC to. Maybe the commute home you might want them, but only if it's short enough.

My car seats sink heat into my body for a good 10 minutes after the air on the car is cool. Nothing worse than getting out your car with a sweaty back.

Come to think of it, I'd probably want seat warmers/chillers with leather seats. With crappy fabric seats, those things have usually maintained a pretty reasonable temperature for me.

I had a seat motor(controls seat positioning) go out in my Nissan. The car was still under warranty and they told me it was a gray area whether or not it should be covered. In the end they did cover it but without warranty they wanted to charge $1,000. There are 3 motors under both front seats. So 6k to fix them all if they all happen to go out.

These features will cost you an arm and a leg to get fixed if they ever break.

...nope. Sorry. There is no way they were charging a thousand bucks per motor.

I worked for an Infiniti dealer. We couldn't even get bare motors. The seat track assemblies are what got replaced, which contain all motors. They ran in the $700-1200 range, depending on the model, plus a few hours labor. Yes, that's still quite pricey, considering the foams could also run a few hundred bucks and the covers could be another cool grand...but that's still <3k for the entire seat.

As far as the cooled seats...it was just a perforated cover, and like two 80mm PC fans embedded in the foam. Really stupid-simple. An AC duct in the floor beneath the seat dumped out cool air for your anus to be force-fed.

i have a friend who had a mid 2000s lincoln that had air conditioned seats, and yes they do in fact work. they were really neat and probably would be much more useful than heated seats for a lot of this country

Given that it's mid-March which means it is already 85+ degrees on a daily basis, I find myself questioning the full usefulness of my Accord (that's right - big time lawyers roll with the Accord).

I know there are some cars with air conditioned seats, but do they actually work well? And is there some resource for identifying what cars actually have them? My Accord has heated seats which is somebody's idea of a sick joke in South Florida.

vented seats are great. get them if you can, especially in hot and muggy places like floriduh.

Many times my co workers would complain after I get from their chair after explaining certain OS or pc issue.

One co worker said "You made my seat hotter than a nuclear furnace!"

LOL! AC seat cooling in the new 2015 mustang is awesome!

Come on son! ATOT ballers all know that the Ferrari California did not have ventilated seats.

Yeah I had to have them custom installed. I'm overall happy with the result. Makes driving through AZ on a hot day much more tolerable.

Yes, my wife's Lexus has air-conditioned seats and they work amazingly well when it's hot out.

I wish it was a more common option. My BMW only had heated seats. I don't need that here in CA so I just skipped it all together.

The fancy fords and Lincolns have cooled seats. You can program the remote start to turn on cooling or heating depending in the season. Pretty sweet to get into a fully heated or cooled car.

Air conditioned car seats are a thing, Holy shit, I need those wheneveer I get my next car to deal with June, July and August .....

I'm amazed that I have not once heard of air-conditioned seats and that I have not once thought about this existing. I was actually just in the market for a new car and I did not see this come up once.
