Allright, so someone messaged me the other day with sup <my first name>. The person was not on my buddy list, but I accepted their message. When I asked the other person who he is, he just said: check this out, and then pasted a bunch of "aaa". I then saw he signed off...

About 5 minutes later, someone else messages me, with a different user name, but this time it didn't even ask me if I want to receive his message. The person does the "aaa" thing again, my AIM locks up and gives a General Protection Fault error, so I have to close it and restart it. I am assuming/pretty confident that was a DoS attack... The problem is that when I re-opened AIM, half of my buddy list was gone! I used to have about 60 people on the list, and then I had about 25 after the DoS attack.

Has this happened to anybody else? I should've done a "netstat" on the guy and reported him to his ISP. Then again, he's probably someone I know since he knew my first name.

Back up your Buddy List manually. I back up the entire registry entry for my sn and keep it on my hdd. Just open regedit and search for your sn. Works great

what version are you running?

try getting of aim, and go to www.aim.com and log into the AIM express, AOL, keeps a list of your bl, so maybe you can get it that way, ohh and you might have to update your AIM, i know the older version had that AAA attack, do a search for hacking AIM.

:)

As for me, I wouldn't really be at a loss if I lost my buddy list. I'd just wait for people to IM me then I'd add them...

Those people on that list of mine just can't stop wasting my time
