White America will never vote for Jindal in numbers great enough to defeat Obama.

The Republican Party is committing suicide in the next election if they nominate this guy. Rednecks simply won't vote for a "sand *****" in meaningful numbers.

HE'S A HINDU! HE'S A HINDU! HE'S A HINDU! HE'S A HINDU!

Yeah, the rednecks are going to go for that even if he is prattling ID.

Painful painful. I miss Palin already. I'd rather be amused by a ditzy hot airhead than the revenge of the dork.

I see Jindal trying to gain national spotlight but not reaching anywhere.

The GOP have to be hoping that the Democrats completely fail. Otherwise they are going to out of power for at least two or thre federal election cycles

My favorite part of Mr Jindal's speech is his being against volcano monitoring because he, his family and friends do not directly benefit from it

Personal responibility for everyone else!

This guy sounds like a fucking moron. He's talking down to us and coming up with some "you can do it" bullshit. Come on man, tax breaks for housing? Is that all you've got? That doesn't do jack shit.

Yet he's the governor of a state and you aren't.

He got into Harvard Med and Yale Law Schools, and was a Rhodes Scholar.

I guess he should have been a community organizer instead.

Yet believes in intelligent design and thinks exorcisms are real.

Which immediately places Jindal in the "moron" category.

He's also a ginormous hypocrite, objecting to and criticizing the stim plan as "irresponsible" and yet accepting over $3.7 billion of the planned $3.8 billion for his state.

He's done more for the state of Louisiana than any of the prior countless Democratic governors. And let's get real - I'm sure I can find something that you do that seems pretty stupid to most people - does that mean you're an idiot? Incompetent? That you can't do your job? No. Such snap-judgements are puerile.
Oh how surprising! I notice you danced all around the two complaints I laid down. I have more, but perhaps you should start with these two instead of merely diverting attention to me?

No, I didn't. I pointed out that those aspects of him don't affect his ability to perform at his job by using you as an example - the is equally valid no matter who I use as an example, but I thought we might be able to have a better discussion this way.

An effective counter-point for you would be to give an example where either of your two concerns have demonstratively affected his job performance.

Let me know when you find one.
Yes, yes you did.

I said he's a moron for pushing to have ID rammed down every school-kid's throat in LA and an idiot for believing that exorcisms are real. And what did you do? You shifted the discussion to me. Lame.

Frankly, those two points alone are sufficient to alienate Jindal for about 90% of Americans right off the bat. About the only ones who might be left supporting him after hearing this, might be the hard-core evangelists and young-earth bible literalists.

And you didn't even bother to address his hypocrisy. If Jindal believes the stim plan is so irresponsible, he should refuse to accept any of the funds for his state. But what does he do instead? He accepts $3.7B instead of $3.8B. Wow, Jindal, way to make a point.

Eh, whatever - you're making this personal, when it's not meant to be. Grow a thicker skin and act like you've been here.

Sure, his personal views may alienate some voters, and you've got me on the ID stuff (though whether it's as bad as you seem to think it is leads to an entirely different debate - Ramming Big Bang and Uncertainty Principles down our kids' throats doesn't seem to cause as much of a stir). Although, you cited his beliefs rather than his actions, so you're at fault for the red herring, and I'm at fault for biting on it.

As for hypocrisy, I can't really stand up for him there, but his responsibility is to his state.

So you admitted you have no point in defending him since you agree with all criticisms against him (ID issue, exorcisms, hypocrisy on budget). Yet you still support him, sad.

Teaching ID in schools - not a really big issue for me, either way. I see the pros and the cons and it's just a wash either way for me. I won't hinge a vote on it, and I won't say the guy is incapable over it if he can keep up with his other duties.

Exorcisms - I don't really give a damn what the man does on Sunday. JFK was catholic.

Hypocrisy - Real cute. Either he's a hypocrite for taking any of the money, or he's another politician who will use the citizens of his state as a stepping stone to get to the national stage. True, he put himself in the limelight here, and he's going to have to take his licks for it, but I think he made the right choice. His embarassment isn't worth what the state would suffer had he chosen to pass on $3.7 billion.

And finally, supporting him - I support him as governor of Louisiana - at the end of the day, he's a positive force for the state (in spite of ID, exorcisms, and hypocrisy (what? Hipocrisy from a polictician???? *GASP*)), and they've needed that. For President? We're not there yet, so I really can't say. I think he raised some good points in a poor manner. I also think that people are paying far more attention to him than they are to his points.

:cookie:

I think he's referring to the racist and ignorant crowd who thought Obama was a muslim blah blah blah. Who do you think they'd rather vote for - a black christian dude or a brown indian kinda dude? I don't think some of these people even realise there's a Hindu religion with a billion+ followers.

Bobby Jindal's not a hindu and the depth of condescension for the opposition people are able to muster never ceases to amaze me.

I think he had some voice coaching too, his inflections sound funny to me (english is not my mother tongue)... it's all up and down up and down as if he's reading a children's book.

I know you'd rather listen to Pelosi and see her jump and down for every sentence that BHO finishes. And the fact that now CA credit rating is lower than Louisiana is another proof that someone is doing a better job!

California is run by a Republican governor and the state assembly is run by Democrats, just like Louisiana, idiot.

Facts are facts man. I really don't see the Republican base moving forward on issues of race. A brown dude has no chance with the hardcore Republican base.

It doesn't matter if Jindal is a hindu or not, all the Democrats have to do is use his real first name "Piyush" and it'll scare the Republican base. Hell, Jindal won't make it out of the primaries, other Republicans will sandbag him from here to Bombay in every contest.

I had an indian friend growing up and we would call him "Bobby", not because we were racist, but because his Hindu parents couldn't bear to hear his name butchered by us, or not uttered at all. We didn't realize his real name until we were in grade school and it seemed so silly in hindsight.

Good find, LK. I had heard stories that his Katrina story was false before but it carries a lot more significance now that he admits he made it up.

Kind of like Hillary's flight into Bosnia under gunfire, but this is more substantial as this anecdote was central to the premise Jindal was trying to make-that he personally witnessed big government hindering the Katrina rescue operations.

Please add "liar" to my list of complaints about Jindal.

Remember that story Bobby Jindal told in his big speech Tuesday night -- about how during Katrina, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with a local sheriff who was battling government red tape to try to rescue stranded victims?

Turns out it wasn't actually, you know, true.

Can't wait for inspire to tell us more about his bromance with Jindal despite Bobby being an ignorant, bible-thumping liar and a hypocrite. What won't inspire tolerate from his favorite politician?

He's like a beaten wife who just can't leave her abusive husband.

You must've missed all those colorful characters at Palin rallies last year.
