This guy sounds like a fucking moron. He's talking down to us and coming up with some "you can do it" bullshit. Come on man, tax breaks for housing? Is that all you've got? That doesn't do jack shit.

Yet he's the governor of a state and you aren't.

He got into Harvard Med and Yale Law Schools, and was a Rhodes Scholar.

I guess he should have been a community organizer instead.

Yet believes in intelligent design and thinks exorcisms are real.

Which immediately places Jindal in the "moron" category.

He's also a ginormous hypocrite, objecting to and criticizing the stim plan as "irresponsible" and yet accepting over $3.7 billion of the planned $3.8 billion for his state.

He's done more for the state of Louisiana than any of the prior countless Democratic governors. And let's get real - I'm sure I can find something that you do that seems pretty stupid to most people - does that mean you're an idiot? Incompetent? That you can't do your job? No. Such snap-judgements are puerile.

Really? Like cutting teachers while padding his own buddies pocket's for 92MM? Expanding the state budget?

http://bestofneworleans.com/gy...ontent?oid=oid%3A51254

Jindal is a joke.

I have to agree. I had high hopes when he was elected, and his handling of Gustav was impressive (but really, look who we are comparing him to), but the guy is a complete ladder-climber. He cares nothing for Louisiana and will be gone to the national stage as soon as he can shake this embarassment off.

I completely disagree. This guy has demonstrated an ability to get things done while remaining fiscally conservative. Yeah, he bombed on the delivery here - but he had a lot of good points to present.

Charisma and likability are ancillary qualities of a president.

No, they're really not. Anyone who has interacted with anyone of significant leadership or had any leadership responsibilities themselves know just how important the "soft" skills are, especially when dealing with foreign powers.

A leader that can't effectively communicate (not saying this is Jindal; his other speeches were quite ok) isn't going to get the support behind them.

92MM for his buddies? That's simply paying people what they're worth. If you were familiar with Louisiana, you'd understand the amount of talent that goes out the door because poeple aren't paid what they're worth. We're talking a High School teacher in Chicago is paid more than an Associate Professor in Baton Rouge.

This guy actually allowed federal road home money given to the state following those disasters to be released to the people after the previous Kathleen Blanco let those billion of dollars sit in the bank while people suffered - the interest was never found.

No, I didn't. I pointed out that those aspects of him don't affect his ability to perform at his job by using you as an example - the is equally valid no matter who I use as an example, but I thought we might be able to have a better discussion this way.

An effective counter-point for you would be to give an example where either of your two concerns have demonstratively affected his job performance.

Let me know when you find one.

His performance was so bad the Fox News shows last night didn't even mention it. Another way to skew the news.

You know, he did make a few good points, however, I for one would shudder if the federal government were run like anything remotely similar to the Louisiana government. Screw that. :p

I see where you're comign from there, but many of his points drew on experiences he had in cleaning up the Louisiana government. At the state level, he's made a great deal of progress towards this end in a very limited amount of time.

I was going for a more literal interpretation there. I don't want DC to run the nation like Baton Rouge runs Louisiana. Sure, he has made some progress, but I still don't want a Louisiana politician anywhere near the White House. Don't get me wrong, I love Louisiana (and visit there frequently), but that state's government is a clusterfvck.

Yes, yes you did.

I said he's a moron for pushing to have ID rammed down every school-kid's throat in LA and an idiot for believing that exorcisms are real. And what did you do? You shifted the discussion to me. Lame.

Frankly, those two points alone are sufficient to alienate Jindal for about 90% of Americans right off the bat. About the only ones who might be left supporting him after hearing this, might be the hard-core evangelists and young-earth bible literalists.

And you didn't even bother to address his hypocrisy. If Jindal believes the stim plan is so irresponsible, he should refuse to accept any of the funds for his state. But what does he do instead? He accepts $3.7B instead of $3.8B. Wow, Jindal, way to make a point.

Actually a depressingly large percentage of America does not accept evolution, so it probably wouldn't alienate 90% of Americans. (hell, remember the Republican primary where they asked who believed in evolution?)

Believing in exorcism and intelligent design most certainly should remove him from rational consideration though, as it shows he is willing to ignore overwhelming evidence in the service of ideology. We've had quite enough of that.

Yikes!

I'll say this; he's not as bad as Sarah Palin. He isn't from the same vein of anti-intellectualism as defined by Bush and Palin, and that's a good thing. But...

I caught the speech online awhile ago, and am still experiencing feelings of both amusement and dismay. He's no Jim Webb that's for sure!

I couldn't agree more. A more exotic looking Mike Huckabee with a Suthin Drawl ain't gonna cut it.

How can the Republicans even put this guy out as their front-man?

He's brown. Right there, you alienate a huge portion of your base. Face it, the GOP base is full of bigots. It's just fact.

Plus, if you are trying to out-charisma Obama, it just won't happen. Obama is an extremely skilled orator and naturally charismatic. If you have to force it, as Jindal tried, it just fails. You can't put out a conservative Obama and expect to win.
