Time to go Intel? Yeah so you can pay more money for the same thing. C'mon guys this intel/amd thing has been beat to death. There are advantages/disadvantages for both. AMD is cheaper on the bottom and in the middle, Intel has the top performing cpu now and is quieter. This is just user error or system malfunction. It is just bad luck!!!
In the end intel will not cost you more,yes you pay more when you buy it but dont forget when you sell it you're going to be getting more for your used intel cpu too.
And with intel you donmt have to buy it twice to get it right,I have seen quite a few threads here about mobo/cpu blowing up with AMD but I never seen a intel cpu/mobo thread that had stuff blown up.

Ok you need to ditch the water cooling asap and test it with the stock heatsink fan. taht should deffinitely be step 1 to trouble shooting.

Perhaps your PC assembly/upgrade skills need honing or retraining? See if you can find a cheap socket 7 setup maybe to practice on? Don't know...and yeah, make sure you really know what you're doing before trying water cooling.
Ok, I see now that you said you've built PC's before; don't know. Really bad luck, or a nervous oversight maybe. I've done that already, like one time I forgot to make sure the heatsink's clips were on tight - one popped off, but I didn't notice until the CPU (Tbird 900) had overheated and died.

I do beleave that this is not a AMD vs Intel problem, I agree that you should try pluging in your retail hs/f and try to boot it up with that. if that works then go back to the water cooling, if you get it working.

Are you sure that all your other components are still working? I was attempting to fix a dying computer (actually had it running fine with a new hard drive) when it went "BAAAMMMM" and blew up a chip on the mobo. I am guessing now that it was a dying power supply that ended up blowing up the voltage controller IC (not regulators).
This is where the story turns to a nightmare. The only component that survived that horrific death throe was the modem.

P.S. Have your friend "loan" you some basic parts like power supply and memory and see if it will even boot.

Aight dudes, thanks for the replies. I've been water cooling for two years now and never plan on going back to air, but I'm still gonna try and get a HSF and plop it on there. There's absolutely no corrosion in the copper tubing (I've got a distilled water/antifreeze blend) and the pump is moving water quickly through the system.
I am worried about the power supply though. It's never gone bad before, but what else would explain my first random motherboard explosion?
I know that it's not the fan RPM problem because I've gotten into the BIOS before and stayed there for a while, with the health monitor saying that my CPU was at a happy temp of 32C.
My last board was a Shuttle and I've been really happy with it. From the reviews I've read of the AN35N it's a pretty decent board. So I hope that the mobo's not messed, cuz that would be a pain. I just need to go and find a HSF and new power supply... and a new mobo to plop my CPU into.

PSU, HSF, that's about it...hope you get it working. It shouldn't be the board, though...Shuttle boards may be a touch shy of features, but I've never had any major problems with them (hence trusting them when it came to my last upgrade). However, even crappy PSUs will boot and such just fine (usually).
