for hating something so much, you guys sure spend a lot of time talking about it.</end quote></div>

I don't hate it at all. It's easily one of the best games I've played.

I avoid most of the noobs by grouping and raiding exclusively with guildies. Most of these folks and I go back 2 years, and a few of them I met in 99 when we played EQ.

The community at large is mostly idiots but as long as I don't read the official forums I'm good.

BTW,

WHERE IS MANKRIKS WIFE</end quote></div>

L2Thottbot noob lawl! QQ moar!

that's another thing I disliked, whenever you ask a question everyone replies thottbot or allakhazam it noob.

I did usually, but I also never understood why it was so hard for people to help one another with a simple thing.

If someone asks something, my assumption is that they don't know about thottbot since they'd look it up there if they did. If I know the answer I'll tell them, but if I don't I'll tell them where they can find out, eg. thottbot.com. I don't add an insult at the end though

I've played both WoW and EQ2 extensively. I can assure you that both games are packed with idiots, though more so in WoW just due to sheer numbers. Each WoW server has a shitload more players at any given time than any EQ2 server.

WoW is easy to learn to play, enjoy, and even master. You buy the game, pay your subscription, and simply enjoy (in recent times you also have the option to buy one expansion pack). It's easy, it's convenient, and it just works. If you need any info or help there are loads of web sites to peruse.

With EQ2 in addition to the actual game you have the option of three expansions (soon to be four) and three "adventure packs" each available individually. Gameplay is not as easy or straightforward as WoW, and even if you do your research online you won't find that much available. Furthermore, each expansion or pack adds something to the game mechanics - two of the expansions are essential because your character will be grievously underpowered without the Achievements system they introduce (achievements are very similar to Talents in WoW, but you don't get that functionality without the KoS and EoF expansions). None of this is immediately clear to EQ2 newbies, especially because SOE has the bad habit of selling games at a discount to attract customers, who then find out that if they want a decent experience and a choice of more than four areas they'll need to invest muchos bucks in various add-ons. (It's nice that Blizzard sells a complete game and doesn't stiff customers the way SOE loves doing).

People who play EQ2 tend to be more dedicated and consequently a little more serious, more mature (mentally if not necessarily in terms of age). The game requires much more effort, money, and thought so that it becomes more of a process than the incredibly accessible WoW. That might explain the incredible number of idiots on WoW - that and the fact that the servers are just far more populated on WoW.

I'm not saying one game is better than the other - I am simply saying the differences in populations and the required dedication account for the incredible stupidity you are invariably exposed to in WoW. When playing WoW you really need to use the ignore function, disable chat channels, and find yourself a good guild and friends.

Oh, and my favorite:

"WHERE IS MANKRIKS WIFE"
"WHERE IS MANKRIKS WIFE"

I RARELY get these kinds of tells. I'm not sure if people are just completely blowing things out of proportion or what, but I very rarely get tells like this. I played WoW in a hardcore raid guild up until a few weeks after Naxx came out, then just picked it up again last week and in all this time I really don't think I've been that abused by the WoW "idiots." Maybe I'm just standoffish? Dunno, I think the number of times I've received these sorts of whispers is under 30 in the 2 years I've played. Or, perhaps, it just doesn't really get to me?

Again it varies heavily by server. IMO the release servers have fewer beggars/idiots, becauase most people on them have been playing a long time. The newer servers, especially those on the recommended list, are atrocious.

Hah... earlier, I had lots of fun with people that must've had their hand held in WoW. I was on my Shaman getting some jewelcrafting recipes when this mage asks me if I can heal him and a friend on a fel reaver. Well, I remarked that I'm not resto but enhancement and my priest would be much more suitable. He said it wasn't necessary and they just needed a couple small heals. I think "Oh, he has a warrior or something." So I join up and it's two mages.... well, I happen to know this won't work. After insisting on using my priest+warrior, the guy finally agrees (god knows what took him so long). I go to summon the other mage using the HC stone and while summoning the 70 mage sends me a tell with something like, "hey since you have 2 characters, can you give me gold... I still have my 60 mount" Now just make that with a lot worse grammar and spelling and that was the message. I told him just to go quest and get money. Then after fighting the fel reaver, he starts freaking out about not doing something. I think to myself, "you just have to stick the thing in the dead fel reaver... what could he have missed? >_>" He links the Fel Zapper from the Netherstorm quest and it took me a good 5 minutes to get the idea across that you have to use it on the specific fel reaver in netherstorm.

I waste way too much time helping people like this ~_~.

Lol wow... I just don't bother. Generally if I'm not busy on my shammy I'll just play an alt. Loafing around town is a sure way to attract beggars and get yourself into stuff like what you described.
