Guys I live in NY and want to know about this Tax Free weekend. I purchased my BFG 6800GT 08/08/04 @ ~ 6:56 PM and want to know how come I payed TAX!!! Was NY participating in this tax free weekend thing? Should I call the Bestbuy I purchased from and ask for my tax back? I would love to save the Tax I paid if possible after driving 290 miles round trip to get the thing.

I bought them both (couldn't decide which I wanted), and I could NOT run Farcry on them without errors! Tons of artifacts and tearing, regardless of drivers, or settings! Worse, the base eVGA 6800 seems to have a major bug with 4xAA in Doom3, basically cuts 99% of your framerates... eVGA is a great company, but I was horribly pissed off about this.

Got my BFG home, dropped it in, booted up Farcry, and boom, worked perfectly.. Me thinks eVGA got some manufacturing issues. I wasn't about to get a bum card again.. My last card was a ATI 9800Pro and it was nothing but trouble, from day one, even had to RMA it 2 months after I got it, and the one they sent was STILL buggy.. I will spare no expense to get the absolute best card I can find this time, so I was miffed about the whole eVGA experiance.

None of these problems with my eVGA GT. Both eVGA and BFG kick ass IMO.... This GT replaced a BFG FX 5900, which looks almost exactly like BFG's new GT - blue lights and almost identical heatsink.

Juice a little more context like how far that is in miles from where ever you live would make your post more relevant. :)

WTH! My BFG doesnt look like that...it looks like the reference card. *contemplating returning it for a shiny one*

well reno is 200 miles away from me which mean its a 3 hour drive. Seeing how I dont have a car this will be very troublesome indeed. the guy in reno told me he would hold one for me until saturday but i dont have a car.

Is there any way I can do a store transfer or something of that nature like pay my local best buy for the card and have them get one from reno?

I did a search last night and according to the online search only 1 store near me had them in stock and it was about 2 hours round trip but I checked again this morning and all 5 stores near me had them. Called the closest one and sat on hold for about 10 minutes before hanging up and taking a shower. Went to a friends and helped him pickup some shelves at the store and checked stock when I got back. Now all of the stores are greyed out.

At this point I don't give a damn. I'm done begging Nvidia and ATI to sell me a card at $399 or more. Since they both totally blew this product release I'll be holding onto my 9800Pro and will wait for a real deal. Someone wake me up when I can get a 6800 Ultra or X800XT for $300... :disgust: :|

I had the same problem last night, Every time i refreshed the page they were either black or grey. I am seriously losing my temper, and I agree with you that they could not have blown this product release even more

Guys, if you read these threads closer you would see it takes more effort you have to CALL & ask the to check the MODEL number. Ignore the online crap for who has what it is useless. Again CALL your local Bestbuy and ask them to look up the model number and which stores have them in stock for you and which is closest etc. The get the phone number and call and make sure the closest one to you actually has it and make them look up the model number in the computer also and make sure they have it in their hand sealed package and will hold it then you get in your car and go get it if it is close enough driving distance.

Juice I wasnt talking to you but the others who keep saying that they check online status and nothing else or call and dont ask them to actually look it up in the pc. Even if they find it in the pc they will give up if they dont see it on the shelf etc. Everyone needs to be pushy but nice about it if they want to get one. Yes, it really sucks about the availablity and that you have to try so hard to get one...

Thats how you find one.. They sell fast, but MOST stores don't even put them on the shelves... My friend at BB said 50-100+ people a day come in asking for BFG6800GT's. But most sales dorks check the shelves, and they aren't there.. Duh! $400 cards don't sit on the shelf, they are locked up.

Anyway, read the thread on how to get one.. They are coming in stock almost DAILY.. You just have to know how to handle it.

I didn't read the replys to see if it was answered, but here in Florida they give us a tax free shopping weekend every year now, right before the kids go back to school.

I hesitate in telling you this but San Carlos got two in this morning. I didn't have serious upgrade fever but I went on the site about 10am this morning and the only store in bold was San Carlos. This was my first attempt at trying to find one of these. I called them, got a *very nice* guy who said they received two fedexed and were about to put them out. He held one for me, even said that he was sure he was probably going to piss off one of the other BB guys by doing so because they probably wanted one @ employee discount.

When I arrived the other one was already gone and his tone changed a bit, so I think someone really did get mad at him. As he handed me the box he gave me some line about how they're not supposed to sell them until 8/15. Where that came from I had no idea.

Cheers to him, the only honest bestbuy employee I think. :)

If I snaked your card, sorry juice. I doubt you would have had a chance otherwise. Hopefully you got the other card!:D

Its ok iwearnosox, If i cant get the card then I at least want other people to have and enjoy them. Maybe one day my local Best Buy will get them in stock, and the people who work there will not be so rude and caniving.

I'm sick of this game and I'm not going to play it anymore. Since when did the customer have to beg to be sold an item at or above MSRP? We're talking about graphics cards that cost $400+ and we're supposed to do the legwork to get one? Bullspit. If the cards weren't ready in numbers then ATI and Nvidia shouldn't have launched them and I don't want to hear about a GDDR3 RAM shortage being used as an excuse. Both companies tried to beat each other to the punch and in the end they screwed us.

I'll pay $300 for a BFG 6800 Ultra or X800XT - no more. In a year these cards will be lucky to be worth 50% of the sale price anyway.

Damn. I need to make a foray into my local Best Buy...most online retailers are asking $500 for that card, easy.

the best card my local best buy had was a 9800 pro.
