Tax free weekend is offered by some states right before the kiddies go back to school so that parents can buy their back to school stuff without paying tax. You can save money by not paying tax on clothes, school supplies, computers, etc.

A Wal-Mart in North Carolina on Tax-free weekend = HELL ON EARTH

that should read "I can't afford one" instead i'm thinking...

Shows how much you know!. Haha. What I meant to get across was that it seemed like the people who really wanted one couldnt get their hands on one while 5 stores withing a 15 mile radius all have it in stock. IMO, 400 dollars is too much to spend on a video card, eventhough I can more than afford it.

I bought them both (couldn't decide which I wanted), and I could NOT run Farcry on them without errors! Tons of artifacts and tearing, regardless of drivers, or settings! Worse, the base eVGA 6800 seems to have a major bug with 4xAA in Doom3, basically cuts 99% of your framerates... eVGA is a great company, but I was horribly pissed off about this.

Got my BFG home, dropped it in, booted up Farcry, and boom, worked perfectly.. Me thinks eVGA got some manufacturing issues. I wasn't about to get a bum card again.. My last card was a ATI 9800Pro and it was nothing but trouble, from day one, even had to RMA it 2 months after I got it, and the one they sent was STILL buggy.. I will spare no expense to get the absolute best card I can find this time, so I was miffed about the whole eVGA experiance.

Unlikley that eVGA has a widespread problem. My brother has a eVGA 6800. Works beautifully in FarCry and Doom 3. I mean most of these manufactuers are using the reference design, so they really aren't going to vary much.

should work fine.
if you run into problems run driver cleaner, but you probably won't have any problems just uninistalling, powering down, swapping cards, powering back up and installing new drivers.

Ahk, have you called the stores and asked them each to look up the model number in the computer because if you have not as has been said time and again just using the store locater on the bestbuy website is USELESS as an indication of availability. Every store in my area had them too, lol.

Just taking a stab in the dark here, but are you in the Sacramento area? I just picked up one this afternoon at the Best Buy near the Arden Faire mall. They still had one left on the shelf.

If its in Black, then they have then in stock RIGHT NOW... They just don't know it because most people that work there are tards... I went in, asked for it, guy goes "Uhh, its on the shelf, if its not there, we don't got it"... I'm like "No gumby, these are $400 cards, they won't be on your shelf...".. He looks on the computer, says they got 2 in stock, and he goes "Sorry, computers wrong.." and walks away...

I finally find my friend that works there, that knows all this crap, and he goes "Well, I think we got em, let me check, they won't be on the shelf though."... He walks around, talking to a few people, finds them up on the canopy, and moves a ladder over and grabs one and he was pretty impressed with its looks. =) Anyway, he said they are either up on the canopies, in the locked cages on the floor, or in the locked cages in the back room... The thing is, most retards at Best Buy don't know where to look for them...

I had my pal check the computer, and almost every store in the area had 2-3 in stock, and 99% of the people working in them don't even know it. So my best advice, head up to the store with the SKU of the card, have them directly check on the computer their counts.. If it says they got em, they got em, just have people look for it, and don't leave till they find it.. If that store is out, write down the names of the other stores that have them, and make customer service call and hold one.

Best Buy SKU for this card is: 6684652 Model Number is: BFGR68256GT

Good luck! My pal says MOST stores Nationwide have 2-3 of these in stock, but its a chore to find someone NOT-LAZY to find them... Oh, and this card is definately heavy as heck, and even lights up blue in your case.

Yeah BB employees are terrible. I checked the website which showed two stores in my area that had them in stock but I called ahead to make sure. The one closest to me said they didn't have any but since he was just a BB drone I didnt' trust him. So I drove out and sure enough there were 2 sitting on the shelf.

jmr you have to get them to look up the model number in the pc or get the manager to then you know for sure if they got it or not. You must be close so the drive was no big deal though. Sure wish I could have saved myself the hasle.

So I've been doing the bestbuy hoop jumping forever, and it amazes me how incompetent the employees are. I give them the SKU, they say oh yeah we do have some in stock, and then the hunt begins for them. I think I'm going to head over there tomorrow with SKU in hand and just demand a manager. They told me their computers say 3 in-stock, but then the mouthbreathing employee's tell me they can't find them they even looked in the back and blah blah blah, and from what I've read here, I just need the manager.

I'm JUMPING THROUGH HOOPS TO SPEND 400?!?!?!

Does anybody know if they could actually be registered as IN-STOCK and still be on the way from their warehouses? I don't want to be rude to these people, I guess maybe I'll just do that, and go ask for the sales manager.

No, they won't say they are "In stock" until they are received by Inventory and put into the system. They should be registered as "In Transit" on their system until they are received.
