So the institution of higher learning that you attend blocked access to the free exchange of information, intentionally crippling the marketplace of ideas? Good school. I hope you aren't paying 40k a year for an education there...

Kind of strange... if they don't want you to use it as a source for papers (which you shouldn't), just don't allow it as a source.

That's idiotic. Wikipedia might not be a scholarly source, but more often than not it's more accurate than the mainstream media about any sort of complicated subject...

Cuz most of the students in my school are retards and would actually use Wiki as a source AND acknowledge it in the Works Cited page. I am not all too surprised that our school would ban it altogether to reduce the hassle from the professor.

Well, isn't that the Prof's job? To knock points off for crap sources? ....or at least it should be a TA's job.

The irony here is that wikipedia often links to valid sources for citing. I'd wonder what else your school blocks.

Read essay, give score, go to bibliography, halve score if wikipedia found in reference section.
Simple enough.

That reminds me of a class I took once (was some kind of writing course) where the instructor explicitly stated that we could make up sources, so long as we cited them correctly. The reason being that the research itself wasn't the point in that class.
