I thought her established asocial characteristic departed too quickly to be very believable.

I guess in a way, but she still shows it throughout the series, like in her OCD-fueled sleepover behavior or most of Feeling Pinkie Keen. I like to see the show as a step-by-step remediation for high-functioning autistic ponies, Twilight Sparkle learning what friendship is composed of via calculated observation, still not as naturally as what most other characters in the show do. Of course, overall she still behaves in a normal manner, but it's the development of her character that particularly drew me into the show (second to spinning gifs of Applebloom).

Anyone else here remember the Boxcar Children?

Ah, memories! Boxcar Children, Encyclopedia Brown, Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, Wayside School, all great stuff. I even the The Baby-sitters Club :$

That being said, I'm still not sure why it has gathered quite the following it has. I mean it is surprisingly good for what it is, but 29 pages of pony pictures and 4chan going insane for a while. Seems a bit much.

The full range of expressiveness of the characters makes it uniquely suited to pictures and gifs. I mean, The Powerpuff Girls is entertaining to watch, but there's no angle in posting them -- they just have a series of stock expressions.

Who needs 13,000 pictures of that?

Also, the fact that My Little Pony gets the ignorant to troll themselves is great.
Because the series has a history it allows those who think like conservatards to make their classic mistake: they build their opinions on assumption -- in this case the assumption that the show is the same as the 80's cartoon -- and they then hold that their opinion is necessarily right even though there's no logical necessity that a reboot has to be anything like its predecessors. Those on the "in", as they actually have knowledge, get to watch those idiots' opinion run smack into a reality that shows an entirely different picture. So it allows them to feel the smug superiority of a superior education that an Ivy League liberal enjoys.
A show like Spongebob just doesn't have that trolling capacity. It looks like a random cartoon for babies; but that's all there is to go on and nobody's gonna stick their neck out on just that. I've never watched a single episode so I'm quite aware of what Spongebob pics look like from the outside. It just looks like a random oddity. There's no great "WTF" because you don't really know what a show like that is supposed to be.

My Little Pony, OTOH, has a hook that gets all the little fishies to jump right in the trollboat.

That's another thing that's great to be on the "in" on, just for what it is. It's a shame that so many will never know Rukia's awesomeness. She's the most developed character I've ever seen in any genre. (You can tell that she was the first character envisioned by Kubo and the first idea for the story had her at its center. Everything about her screams "main character." That she's not saddled with that role and ended up as the main supporting character just gave her more room to develop.)

<3 Rukia.

I think I'm the only one that considers the pilot to be one of the best. It may have the largest "Awww, friends" and "Big fucking rainbow of love defeats the end boss" aspect which throws people off, but the way Twilight Sparkle develops away from her asocial side and everything is just so relatable and precious.

I like the pilot as well. It's a good story. And it's really a perfect pilot episode with those character introductions.

Holy hell...I just looked at the first post. February. February.

Wow.

Yeah, I got in on this one early (for once,) and the community keeps making OC to post! I'm sitting on a buffer of around 250 pics to be posted.

The Lauren Faust comic above made me think of this...it's copypasta, but whatever:
You hear a terrible knock at your door. The combined sounds of blustering winds, unforgiving rainfall and cracking thunder was already enough of a infiltration of your 5 senses. Only to be added was a forceful banging at your front door.

You hurry to attend to the sound expecting to be face to face with a ferocious beast of some sort, clawing away at your humble home, trying to devour the ones who lived inside. You don't bother asking who is trying to break in at such an hour. Your frustration guides you to grab the nearest club like item to defend yourself.

You grab your umbrella and unlock the door ready to face the beast. What you see standing on your doormat is much much worse.
Your fingers rest at the sight of a young grey pegasus with golden yellow hair and a brown mail sack of some sort staring at the ground. She ignored the cold rain pouring down her backside and lifted her head with a cheerful smile. Your heart melts as you realize that this is not the time to receive your daily mail. The pegasus' smile immediately breaks a second later and transforms into a sulking face, tears running down her eyes and blending in with the wet rain on her face.

She sniffed and looked up to you trying to crack out a sentence.
"S-s-so I-I'm just a b-big joke to you huh?" She finally pushed out.
More tears flew out of her beautiful yellow eyes. She tried to look away to hide them. "Derpy..the town idiot. I bet you don't even really remember my actual name..."

You open up your umbrella and hang it over her. Patting her on the head and directing her to come inside.
You didn't want your friend to catch a cold. After that night the two of you never exchanged anymore then a passing hello as she delivered your letters. You stopped making fun of her party pictures like your other friends did. You kept a picture of her close the left side of your bed. You wish that you had never lost such a good friend.

Just finished episode 15. Favorite by far. Pinkie Pie ftw

Thought that one was one of the better ones too. It's unfortunate that people see it as a pro-religion propaganda episode since it's more about trusting your friends and keeping a balanced mind when questioning even what seems irrational. That, and evolving Twilight Sparkle is just such win. :awe:

That said, Call of the Cutie is so obviously subversive messaging about hitting puberty.

Very true. Was not really a fan of that episode.

Episode 15 pretty much solidified Pinkie Pie as my favorite pony. Also when Twilight got on her soap box, literally, I lol'd. So much win

Due to this thread, and with a desire to give it a fair chance, I watched episode 14 on YouTube this morning. Ya know what? I still say it's a POS. It's a child's cartoon, that teaches children core life lessons. Not a bad thing, but not really suitable for anyone who's hit the double digits in age. It's bland, trite, and there's nothing more than you see on the surface. It's a kids show in every sense of the word.

The OP is still stuck in some weird fcking kiddie state, whatever the disease is called where kids cannot mature past a certain age. He's 30 years old watching cartoons for pre-pubescent girls.

Edit: Whatever happened to fuzzybabybunny? He should have a talk with OP.
