Download the episode, open it in VirtualDub (you need to download a plugin if it's in mkv), select the video range you want, export to image.
Then open the directory you saved the images to in windows explorer, narrow the window so it only shows 2 thumbnails across. Select one column and delete them all. This halves the number of frames. (easiest way to do it)
Now open GIMP, File--> open as layers, and select all the pictures. Resize as needed under Image menu. Check the animation with Filters-->Animation-->Playback. If it's backwards, Layer-->Stack-->Reverse Layer Order. Save as GIF -- in a couple seconds it'll come up asking you whether you want to flatten the image or save as animation -- save as animation.

Then open it in Microsoft GIF Animator, click the Select All button, and fix the timing. (halving the frames should get you close to right) You can set timing for individual frames as well, allowing you to pause on the first and last frame or just clean up any segment that doesn't look smooth.
Save. Done.

Nope, it's not an uh ohs kinda thing. I wish it was -- then I could be a hipster, liking something that sucks. But this new version of My Little Pony is just plain old mainstream "good."
It's like, instead of writing one-dimensional caricatures, someone decided to write real characters. And bam, a show was born.
I'd describe the show as solid character interaction wrapped in cuteness flowing down plot line. The cuteness might be off-putting to some, probably because commercial "cute" is usually wrapped in retardation if anything at all; but MLP:FiM escapes that trap.

It's well suited to images because the characters each have a million expressions. They just say so much with them. Cute + expression is a winning combination.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Specifically, the one picture with Princess Celestia, Nightmare Moon, and Twilight. It's hard to peg down everything, but it just has a general air of "wrong" to it.

I just asked the /b/ronies for a bigger version of that and got it in 1800x1000.
Running some edits now.
Damn, this is going to be a lot more work than what I got away with on that thumbnail.

Here it is:

I swapped out Twilight's hair for that in the second panel of the dragon/chicken strip. Also tried to fill out Pinkie's and Rainbow's haunches a little.

The Season 1 finale of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has finally aired.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the absolutely amazing, incredible, astounding crew of MLP:FiM for all their hard work and dedication. I’m so grateful to have such a talented group of artists give their all for what could have easily been seen from day one as silly, girly fluff unworthy of their time. Together I think we helped prove that “for girls” does not have to automatically equal “lame.”

And a gigantic thank you to the fans of the show!!! The kids, the parents and all you bronies!! The array of people this show has touched has completely exceeded my wildest expectations! I cannot believe the response, and, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I cannot keep up with the messages!!! Thank you all for your words of praise, thanks, curiosity, and even your thoughtful criticisms. From the messages I’ve received, these episodes have lifted spirits, brought parents and kids together, changed perspectives and inspired the most unlikely of people in the most unlikely of places. Who would have thought it from a show about candy colored ponies? I want you all to know how grateful I am for you feedback and for sharing your thoughts and stories. I only wish I had the time to reply to everyone and the ability to answer each and every question.

And now I suppose it’s finally time for me to deliver some unfortunate news. I’ve been uncertain for a little while now about how, when and, to be honest, whether to announce the news at all. But here it is: I am no longer working on the show. Various circumstances with the production made it increasingly impossible for me to keep up the level of personal creative involvement and control that I had at the start of the series. I don’t think I can accurately express how difficult and painful the decision was and still is. When Season 2 begins, you will see my credit changed from Executive Producer to Consulting Producer. My involvement in Season 2 ultimately does* not reach far beyond story conception and scripts. A little more involved in the beginning, and a little less towards the end.

However, you should be pleased to know that the gaps I have left are being filled by the same amazing artists, writers and directors who brought you Season 1. I’m certain the show will be as entertaining as ever, though perhaps in a slightly different way.

With that said, I hope you will still be interested in sticking around my DA page. I started this page as a forum to share my personal work and I hope that those of you who come here lured by ponies will be tempted to hang out for whatever else I have to share in the future---- as soon as I figure out what that will be!!

*clarification: Story concepts and writers' meetings were completed several weeks ago, so my role is complete. I am not working on this show in any capacity at this time. Sorry for the confusion. While I'm at it, folks are asking if I left to work on another show. This is not the case. I had no other projects in the works when I stepped down.

I don't know what to make of this. She says her involvement does not reach beyond storyboards and scripts. She also says that she is not working on the show at this time...but she did not leave to work on another project.

I suppose it's too early to panic, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit apprehensive.

Hopefully those who've been left with the reigns don't seriously screw it up. Wonder what it was that happened which caused this, especially after only one season.
